It also says children are not allowed to possess guns in Michigan. And since the dad bought it for him, it would seem that was not legal. Children can possess guns in Michigan for gun ranges and hunting. ONLY while they are AT the range or hunting area, AND under parent supervision. For such a stic...

Aren't you glad there are courts of law, and that a "trial by public opinion" does not confer a guilty verdict upon a defendant? Let's hope the judge here is an impartial observer who objectively interprets the law. I'm not 100% sure that the judge in the Rittenhouse case was 100% imparti...

There doesn't seem to be much substance to argue a pattern of gross negligence. 1. Four days earlier parents buy gun for child. <---everyday legal activity in Michigan 2. Mom take child to range to shoot gun <---everyday legal activity in Michigan 3. Gun kept in parent's room in a drawer <--everyda...

How can it be perceived that a kid could be allowed to carry a gun in school? There are no “riflery” classes in high schools. They are not and if the school or police had searched Ethan's bags (which they could have done based on New Jersey v. T. L. O. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey_v._T....

I actually heard that Michigan doesn't have specific laws about gun storage. I believe that is correct, hence some of my statements here about why I think these charges are unjust. Yes, Michigan does not have specific laws regarding gun storage. However, based on the totality of the actions of the ...

First off, the actions of the parents resulted in the high bail. Had they simply turned themselves in, the DA would not have been able to prove that they were a flight risk to begin with. Maybe, but given the lack of competence and political showboating already on display here, I'm not going to tak...

Why does it matter if theyre not a "public safety risk"? What matters is that they are a FLIGHT risk. And they have demonstrated that they are that...by already trying to flee. Then put ankle monitors on them and make them put up high collateral, like their house or something, jail should...

This is so messed up it's unbelievable.

Not all schools have metal detectors

Ethan was not allowed to carry that type of gun anywhere except on his own property and at a shooting range.

The prosecutor brings charges and argues said charges in trial. It is up to the judge and/or jury to decide if those charges have merit either through motions to have charges dismiss because a crime was not committed (re Kyle Rittenhouse and the curfew and gun carrying charge) or by a jury trial (r...

But was Ethan doing either hunting or at a shooting range at any time he possessed the gun? If not then under law, he was not allowed to possess the gun period and the parents should have reasonably made sure that he did not possess it outside of those activities and outside of their supervision Th...

The prosecution believed there was enough of a pattern of negligent behavior on the part of the parents to charge them. For obvious reasons, any parent that is going to allow their child to be involved with weapons should be handling the situation with the strongest of safety protocols. These paren...

Parents buy long guns for their children/teens to use for hunting and shooting contests/ranges (such as the AR 15 that Rittenhouse had). A 9mm is not a hunting gun by any means. In fact, it is illegal for someone under 18 to possess a 9mm, even if it is open carry (unlike a hunting gun). This is no...

1) The parents bought said gun for their child even though it was illegal for the child to own, carry, or even use said gun anywhere except for a shooting range or on their property if they owned a large enough piece of land. 2) The parents advertised that they specifically purchases said gun for t...

The parents blew off the school when they were told about concerns about their son. The fact that they apparently did nothing - even being flippant about it - tells me some sort of legal action of some sort should be taken against said parents. The fact that these wonderful parents (sarcasm alert, ...
