Based on the internet comments the general public if they know about it all tend to think of it in 3 broad stereotypes. 1. Low intelligence and functioning/retarded 2. Socially awkward nerd/geek 3. An over hyped or outright fake phenomenon. People making it up as an excuse or to get disability benef...

"Mild" autism like "mild" anything is something that happens to another person  Cannot understand I think he's saying that mildly autistic people don't annoy NTs as much. I think he means that people easily consider others' problems mild. ...Or that he has severe autism among other problems. ...

You will f**k up everybody's life who knows you if you do this. My friend blew her brains out last Sunday. Trust me on this. Sorry OliveOilMom This is the reason the second a thought like that tries to form in my brain it gets immediately squashed. By not doing it the odds are greater the 0% that I...

I just posted a question on yahoo answers asking people if they think Asperger's syndrome is cool. Most of the people on yahoo answers are young people. You can see the question here . I'm shocked but happy that everyone agrees that it ISN'T cool to have Aspergers. I am not surprised at all. That i...

I do agree that there has been a large increase in British influence on American language and culture in the last few years, probably the largest since the 1960's. The loo, and spot on are the most common Britishisms I hear over here. I never hear "whilst" used. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/11/fas...

One reason for lack of adult supports at least in the US is that a miniscule percentage of of government money goes for adult supports and research. The link below leads to thread in the advocacy section about people trying to do something about it. http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt253451.html ______...

What do you need the diagnosis for? In the US, they use the DSM-5 diagnostic manual, which isn't used in most other parts of the world. If Brazil uses the ICD-10 manual published by the World Health Organization a diagnosis you obtain in the US may not help you with accessing services or support in...

Based on the Adult Autism section quite a few on the spectrum like to talk about sex. But I would agree it is more of the "exchange of information" type of discussions rather then braggadocio, giggling and gossip you see in many NT sex discussions.

"Catch 22" "no win situation" are cliches but it describes the truth. I find it tiring to trying figure out numerous times a day if an NT like approach or a more aspie approach to situations is going to cause the least amount of damage.
