Today, my older son asked to play in the backyard by himself, and I refused. Even though he's now 7, I feel nervous when he's out of sight, unless he is at school. He is doing grade-level work, with a lot of tutoring. However, he is still pretty immature and lives "in the moment;" he doesn't think ...

It seems to me that three things are going on here. The parents of this child seem to be acting in a suspicious manner. It makes you wonder if they're fit to have a child when they lie about his age and send him on a plane without supervision. The child seems to have some other issues than just Asp...

When I create a thread, sometimes I feel a need to reply to everyone because it makes me feel like I'm ignoring everyone else and it feels so rude if I ignore people. Don't feel bad, I estimate the rate of reply to my questions is around 1 in 10. You are therefore one of many here who don't feel co...

If I have a child, I just don't want him or her to be mentally retarded with aggressive and embarrassing behaviour what is a constant battle for the rest of my life. I can't even cope with myself, so coping with an out of control child what will grow into an adult but still with a child's mind and ...

Personally I despise a lot of the ones that I've seen. There are many that are alright but my general first impression is usually one of distaste. It would depend upon how they are disabled. If it's an obvious intellectual disorder or a speech impediment or something I am most likely to be disturbe...

While I have no hatred at all for retardation, I find Johnny John's line of questioning interesting. The reality is ASD is on a spectrum and a type of class system can develop where higher functioning individuals may feel a sense of "superiority" or "advantage" over less functioning individuals. Thi...

What? No. Actually, I have to own up, I'm not keen on severely mentally retarded people what will always need 24-hour care all their lives and are really just a pest. My friend's 28-year-old brother has Mental Retardation, and has a mind of a 2-year-old. He doesn't wear nappies, but when he needs t...

Hi Everyone One of my almost 6yr old daughter's classes started back today. She wanted to take some toys in the car and one toy in particular into the building. This was fine by us, but we told her that the toy couldn't go into the class. There were 2 reasons for this: she'd picked a parrot puppet ...
