I received the bare minimum of touch as a child. Getting a haircut felt very exotic. Now, touch is the best way to reassure me that I have left that place. I much prefer cultures with hugging. Because I focus so well on touch, I have what is known in the trade as "good hands" and got great...

An elephant's trunk has about 100,000 muscles and no bones. It takes over a year to learn to use it. Young elephants lie down with their head in a pond to drink water.

I think the oldest one is of my father sitting on a couch, happily holding me, and then suddenly putting me aside and rushing from the room. He probably heard a telephone. The next is of crawling off a blanket, and encountering dew on the grass, but that memory had been reinforced by seeing it in a ...

Apparently pre-natal ultrasound can cause autism now. How do I know? I got a leaflet from a random man outside a university campus in Bradford. According to the leaflet ultrasound is not sound, like we thought it was; We have been lied to. It is actually radiation. Gosh, maybe near-term babie...

A friend of mine was taking a brand-new girlfriend out on his sailboat. As they got under weigh, as Captain, he told her it was time to do something on the foredeck. She got upset that he had not said "please" and after that, the voyage was pointless. When Dick Rutan and Jeanna Yeager were...

In South East Asia, it is a major insult to sit so that others can see the soles of your feet. People also go ballistic over white people in a black costume. In the minstrel shows, it was used for insults, but when Prime Minister Trudeau dressed as Aladdin, implying admiration for a brown character,...

The term microagression was coined to give people the excuse to look for slights or insults where none were intended and then be able to be offended with impunity. Aye. Overreaction is an art, but it can give great power. My ex used to accuse me of being passive-aggressive, which probably arose fro...

Classic case of "not my problem". It's not your problem if they get upset over using the wrong words. It's their problem if they are cognitively inhibited just because of one "wrong" word (which isn't even wrong). Also, you're autistic. You have difficulties to adapt. It's ablei...

I think that I was very good at organizing the material to make it easy to follow for a comprehensive understanding, but I was terrible at adapting to individual needs.

Should teachers control students?

Teachers are often required to "baby sit" students, which can lead to huge problems over control. For the students who are interested in the lessons, it is best to provide the information, but let the student learn it in their own way.

I have only taught a few times. The classes were very well received, but I don't think I'd have had enough time to prepare and recover if I tried to do it daily. Robert Persig often regurgitated before class.

It can take me a long time to understand some poetry, which I usually only encounter as song lyrics. When I try to write poetry, the usual search for the right word becomes so difficult that what works tends to dominate what I can say. I assume that the authors have the same problem to some extent, ...

the sudden withdrawal of seasonal prettiness and lightness is jarring to me. :o This time, I put my lights up and down, canny to not get cold now, but didn't get extravagant with the timer. I didn't even go for a walk to look at other lights and indulge in a bit of nostalgia for past Christmasses. ...

Who's life it saves as opposed to the lives it destroys, like the lives of the Dutch farmers and their families; and the access to cheaper food for the population of the importing countries. Not to mention the human rights abuse and the creation of a prescedent that the state can confiscate your pr...

I distinguish two aspects in this climate change cult. One is scientism, that is the practice of citing science as an argument that legitimizes one's ideological beliefs. Nazism claimed anthropology and biology as scientific proof of their racial theory. Communism claimed the science of histiograph...

I am not saying that climate change is not real, I am saying that there is a cult about it. I question the political interference with the economy. I also question the extent at which we can meaningfully control the climate of the entire planet. I question the sanity of it all. This cult has even i...
