No. There have been several occasions in my life where people have 'exploded' at me in anger - or so it seems to me. I've been told, by my partner and others, that the signs I was annoying or upsetting these people were there, I just didn't see it. I'm never sure how much of this is down to not real...

I think its probably healthier to take personal responsibility for our own social failings. Not to blame ourselves but it puts you in a position of control, or at least agency. There's plenty of thread on here where people blame everyone else for not being able to attract a partner. So I'd take issu...

My grandad was a butcher and he had a big walk-in refrigerator that was powered by a diesel generator. This beast lived in its own little shed and it terrified me. It seemed to squat in there and it had two disc shaped bits near the top that looked like eyes and because it rumbled and shook it just ...

I think 'ignore' is the wrong word. If you can't stand up for yourself for whatever reason, or there's no authority figure you can go to for help then I think you're down to one option. That option is to work out exactly what the bully is getting out of bullying you and cut off the supply. I think t...

Can I derail* this thread slightly by linking to, not a film containing a train, but a music video that not only contains trains but appeals to everything autistic in me?

*see what I did there?

I had a sort of similar experience in that my difficulties socialising became more apparent at that age. I'm not sure it was anything to do with me being more autistic at that age. I think it seems that way because of two main factors. Firstly, peers groups become more demanding. At 11ish kids becom...

Writing. All day long. I write for a living now. When the internet first became accessible to me in the late 90s, and I discovered online chat it was a revelation. In real-time chat, I am quick-witted, engaging and eloquent - everything I'm not in real life conversations. Having spent my life with a...
