I can see why someone who is opposed to abortion might be opposed to the morning-after pill, even though it is far from guaranteed that 1) fertilisation will occur, and 2) implantation will occur.

I do wonder if pro-life people mourne the deaths of zygotes that never implanted.

Well this is nuts, to put it simply.

Fortunately by its very nature it seems unlikely to gain in popularity.

You can't realistically or reasonably live your life if you have to worry about how your actions are going to impact someone's mental health. My, oh, my, what lawsuits I'd file if that were the case! I find your words a symptom of living in a pretty toxic environment. Of course protection of mental...

Nothing on the statement from Sarah Weddington to the Supreme Court? Why should any woman have lesser constitutional rights to bodily autonomy than a man? Since you asked - in short: biological differences do not or at least, should not, abate moral duty . From a moral standpoint, there is no inequ...

While both parties may have rights in this matter (eg a rapist should have none), relationships are more complicated than this so it's not that simple - and my question remains unanswered. ...What about a situation where the woman who gets pregnant IS the rapist? Has anyone here thought of that? I ...

If we really want to build the ideal future then we need governments to encourage high levels of R&D, not just leaving the private sector to it. Indeed. I never did see any per se reason why the private sector should be any more innovative or efficient than any conceivable alternative. Yet we a...

Yeah Falun Gong are a great illustration that the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. The persecution they have experienced at the hands of the CCP is disgusting, but their English language media is unhinged. The sort of unhinged that should be tolerated in a liberal society that values ...

I think it's a fiction to say that progressives tolerate Islamic misogyny and homophobia. Progressives tend to revile bigotry in all its forms. When they see a Muslim being homophobic then they'll criticise them, but for being homophobic, not for being Muslim. For example, see here: https://www.bbc....

Since you like authoritarianism so much, why not just move to Cuba already? It’s a socialist paradise over there. Enjoying a glass of rum with a cigar on the beach over there is on my bucket list should I live to be 85 or so. What a bizarre attack coming from a conservative Christian. I'm a liberal...

Anything else goes beyond beginner socialism, so I’ll save that for another time. But yes, Ayn Rand’s Anthem and We the Living, Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984, possibly Brave New World, and if you just want great entertainment get Soylent Green. Marx/Engels Communist Manifesto, of course, but that m...

Socialism unfortunately is an ideal that is yet to be accommodated by our species since our biological and psychological drivers propel us toward selfish desire/wants/needs but also toward parochialism toward in-groups. We aren't that evolved (yet), I think space colonies offers us the first opport...

Women in states that ban abortion will experience no change, either, because women who vote in those states aren’t the kinds of women who are going to want abortions, anyway. Firstly, bloody big assumption! Secondly, big qualifier in bold! People who don't vote don't suddenly lose their rights. Not...

But why would the government pass a law guaranteeing it when I thought they were trying to overturn roe, which is the worry? Democrats are largely pro-abortion. If they had majorities in the house, senate, and a left-leaning SCOTUS with all the appeals courts, they could have easily passed laws gua...

Hypothetically, assuming I was born to a mother who didn't want me, then yes. As it was, I was thoroughly planned. My mother didn't abort my older half-brother, who was a mistake after she vomited up her birth control. If perhaps I met my maternal grandmother (who did conceive my mother accidentally...

Speak for yourself. Life is about the propagation of genetic information. That is ultimately the source for why (most) individuals value their continued existence. This is true regardless of the fact that some people choose not to have children, just as it's true regardless of the fact that some pe...

I can understand not always being comfortable sharing your views on every subject. I don't understand why you'd want to ban everyone else from sharing their views on subjects you aren't comfortable discussing. It doesn't improve your freedom of speech, it just restricts other people's. You are of co...
