ASpartOfMe, I can identify with your two points, I feel this way about my current skills. Eggheadjr, it is good to hear that diagnosis opened up the possibility of deeper happiness. Thank you both. It seems as if the official documentation/diagnosis can be significant for self acceptance. When I po... |

Think about it: how would Aspies fare in the Concentration Camps? Were it not for Dr. Hans Asperger, they would have been sent to their deaths, starting with the doctor's subjects. Like a real hero, he protected them from being "put to sleep" by the Nazis. Too bad his name sounds like ASS-BURGERS(S... |

Am I the only one who thinks that the DSM-5 criteria are broader than the DSM-IV criteria and will lead to more people who slipped through the cracks getting diagnosed? What must be understood is that NT psychs think differently. Aspie Pyschs would tend to strictly follow the criteria. Many NT psyc... |

I thought of another interpretation. The person is on the spectrum, is embarrassed about it and wants a cure for themselves. The person clearly did not seem to understand that it was possible that another person had different feeling, only focused on a narrow part of autism and not the big picture. ... |

I was only recently diagnosed with an ASD last year. Right now I am 55. All my life I have had difficulties with choosing careers and coping with jobs. Before I was diagnosed with anxiety/depression but really have had problems with deciding what I like to do because it seems I cannot cope with peo... |

It is very common for people on the spectrum to have anxiety, sometime severe about change/transition My BRIEF-A test for Executive Functioning Deficits taken for my Aspergers assessment showed that 97% of the world adjusts to change better then I do. What I have found over the years is that the new... |

Since people not on the spectrum are allowed to post one can't assume the poster is on the spectrum, therefore it is not redundant. Even if only people on the spectrum were allowed to post it still should be allowed. I use my user name to express how I feel about my autism. I do wish we were allowed... |

About not wanting to doing the the work the IEP does it may be a matter of a union contract saying they can't do that. I would not expect most people who are not autistic to understand sensory of Executive Functioning. I would be pretty angry at the person for not wanting autistics to be born in the... |
