Social norms and expectations stink. If folks are respected and respectful - it's all good in my book. I don't care if the family is "traditional" or not. From a physical perspective I wish I had kids earlier, but to your point, there were circumstances outside my control and so they came ...

In her 20s my sister cut off the rest of her family for many years and started tentatively reconnecting in her 30s. We have a more tolerant relationship in her late 40s. I've adjusted so that I am not as "needy" by her definition. She could stand to be more needy. LOL-cry. In our case I'm ...

What's helped me the most is setting Others' expectations. "I take things literally, so my interpretation is..." "Oh, sorry I interrupted you (or talked for 5 min), I get very excited about this topic, you were saying?" Oh, and when we relate something to ourselves, NT like us to...

Congratulations!!

Are you going sans drs for a while or going to get new ones? I was glad my insurance switched last year so I could (passively) get rid of a few. So hard to find good drs and car mechanics.

(1) I dropped out (I also was working PT) ---and by golly, I was ready to go back a year later (I couldn't have said I would, but one day it clicked and I was sufficiently recovered) and I distributed my courses year round (took summer classes so fall and spring could be lighter). Come to find out m...

Right there with you. I was diagnosed ASD at 48 and then it was pointed out to me after 50 that a significant factor in my anxiety is ADHD. I've been so "well behaved" all my life, internalizing all the hardship... it's wasn't "seen" (although it's obvious when you know what to l...

^^ Sorry for the discomfort. I was amused by your bra size which clearly pointed at required translation (but briefly brought up the image of a bean pole), so googled for a conversion chart and am good now. Like you, I wore a 36 band size (US) for a while, but now am comfortable in a 38 (which is no...

My ASD child used one during OT and enjoyed it. I then installed a plate swing (long lead line) for her outside. To your point, it's my ADHD child that is more often on it. I like that better satisfying sensation-seeking for motion, but the other swing was more comforting (cocoon like).

Sounds like my donut shop and ski resort incidents last year except I balled my head off in front of everyone (including my children - who *I* am supposed to support). My husband is my "support person", but he wasn't there (donut shop b/c I thought I could handle it; ski resort b/c he had ...

Back to the "what would I do differently" question which I missed... I would have loved to have the insight and communication tools (rules) I have now, there's a book "What to say next" or something like that, that I experienced (learned through trial and error) rather than proac...

My BFF and I find that our passion for a topic can compensate for those things when given the chance. My niche is supporting sales for a larger organization that can afford to have the person to care for the relationship (Ms. or Mr. Salesperson) and the intelligent, deep thinker to do the technical ...

My BFF and I had no idea we were Autistic, so didn't know what was "holding us back". We both had advanced degrees at a prestigious university but worked part-time are sporadically at low-level jobs. However, in our 30s we both found careers (late bloomers?) and went on to become experts. ...

Good point. My Autism lends itself to the many misunderstandings. My ADHD more so leant itself to frustration and overwhelm manifesting as holes in the wall. In my area there are DBT therapy and intensive anxiety workshops for teenagers to manage big feelings without hurting themselves or others. I ...
