Hej (also Swede, but living abroad) There is no clear proven hereditary line in my family, but I am pretty sure that my dad is autistic (undiagnosed and now in his mid 70s) and I think it may have come through his father (we never knew him, so can't be sure but some indicators). I self identify as ...

We're just formalities away from getting our second son diagnosed with autism. To begin with I didn't see this coming. When we learned about our first son being autistic our second son had just been born. I obviously followed him closely from that point. He did imitate things like new borns are supp...

Cyberdad  So I just had my pre-assessment the other day and thought I'd give you the follow up on this thread. Before getting evaluated "for real" I had to be pre-assessed by a doctor, kind of a threshold to shield the psychiatrists from every other nutcase looking for ADHD medicines ...

It's a really good idea. The number of times you need to explain to people in a shop that the reason for this and that is because of autism. It's not even sure people have a clue what that is to begin with. At times I just tell them my boys are deaf... I hope it will raise awareness, perhaps it come...

IQ is not a static thing, it can change. Your IQ is more a reflection of what you're able to do compared to peers. So if you "catch up" on your peers your IQ changes. You have these autistic kids who can do pretty much insane things but it's only apparent for those who are working close to...

Interesting read. I'm in the process of being examined for ADHD. I have already made an impression by contacting them because they didn't call me up on the 23rd of july. Turned out it was 23rd of august they were supposed to call... Just the typical me. I tick almost every box appart from the impuls...

I'd probably give other people the advice to split up, but I wouldn't do it myself. One problem is it would be too much work for one parent alone. If you're not planning on living alone with your kid/s, there will be a problem concerning the potential new partner of your other half and how that pers...

It's a good question. I wonder what a person who scores 0 on these ASD-tests really look like. How could you live with yourself like that? Is it possible to be severely NT? Do they need to mask their need of having social time?

By 19 months I knew without a shadow of a doubt that my daughter was different, but I initially did not connect it to autism. She did not point, was not verbal yet, didn't always respond to her name, would headbang when melting down, arranged toys instead if playing with them...wait, what? I didn't...

Almost done listening to part 1 of this book on youtube. I've only read one book in my life and so having someone read it out loud to me was better than reading it myself, but I still managed to drift away a couple of times. I believe it was Kraftie recommending this book. First of all, deeply distu...

This is the kind of information that meets parents of autistic children. This is taking advantage of parents who want to help their children live full life without any diagnosis. It boggles my mind people turn to Youtube, Facebook videos for truth. The gullibility. I turn to Wikipedia. It's not 100...

I'm in the same boat as Jon. My daughter is on the spectrum. It was my wife who thought I had similar traits to her. After taking a couple of online quizzes that put me just over the line, a lot of things started to make sense about my life. Hard time dealing with people, social cues, need for stru...
