My son is 7. He has ADHD, anxiety, and sensory processing disorder. He also has rough and bumpy skin, which usually is a minor issue. And he is gifted, which also is usually not a big deal one way or another. It seems like now in the second grade he is being sensory assaulted every day with sing-son...

You already have some good suggestions here, so I'll just add one more nugget. My husband is also sensitive to tooth brushing. He is 44 and has had many years of experience with this. Several years ago our dentist told him to book an extra cleaning each year and that would make up for his under brus...

Agree, get his dad to discuss this with him. If his dad is not around, get a grandfather or uncle to discuss it. If not, book him in with a male pediatrician or urologist. He is likely not giving you a good description of the problem because he is embarrassed. You are left to guess what is going on,...

It's important to put in your two cents, but you really will need to get someone outside of the home to back you up. Preferably a male, closer to his age, but an older male will do as well. My son is 7 with what seems to be rather severe ADHD. My husband is autistic and I am NT. Our son does not lis...

I'm not sure where you are, but in the states you can get a doctor's note to get you out of pretty much anything. You would get an IEP (individualized education plan) that would document that you are disabled and as such entitled to certain accommodations so that you can receive the same education a...

Firemonkey, what are you saying about ECT? I don't understand. Both of my parents (and other people of that generation) had many, many rounds of ECT in the late 1960s and early 1970s supposedly for "depression" and "schizophrenia", but it was actually for drugs or general misbeha...

What you do is pick out some part of whatever they are telling you that is the least boring to you and ask them to tell you more about that. It builds a genuine point of interest between you and the other person. It makes it easier for you to focus on the conversation, which will give you an appropr...

I will not name names, but one of my previous reading forums was taken down because shooters kept posting their manifestos on it. In more than one circumstance, even linking livestreams to their shootings. There was lots of other things there to read, so it was rare you'd come across this sort of th...

Well so the New Taliban are saying they are cool with womens education, jobs, will require hijab but not burka, will not be trafficking drugs, and will not be targeting Westerners or Western allies. They sound pretty reasonable so far, as Islamic rule goes. Maybe they will stick to it. I'm amazed th...

Duck- my son sometimes says really negative things about himself like that as well. He judges himself as being so different from other kids and then he always focuses on where he comes up short. It seems to help him if other kids notice something special about him and call attention to that. Like ho...

Yes it is sensory overload. You have to deal with it by working in breaks for yourself. I don't know what kind of work you do or what kind of environment you're talking about, OR if you have disclosed your autism status, but I agree with being discreet with your coping mechanisms. Workplaces can be ...

I think you are missing a zero in the above figure. There are roughly 330 million people living in the US per the last census. Lol, yes, thank you. Also, isn't the US Census supposed to include EVERYONE? Not just a the few people who are upset with an issue and decide to respond ? Exactly. I don't ...

I don't think parents should tell their kids they "are" anything. You can say that their doctors have diagnosed them with this that or the other, but really it is up to them to decide when they are older. That is what I have told my son. He is 7, and honestly, many doctors have diagnosed h...

Lots of people can find examples of something they'd love to have eradicated. Maybe it's something you don't see value in because you don't have it, or maybe it's something you don't see value in because it's something you see as a fault in yourself. Getting rid of something because YOU don't like i...

It's probably a good thing I'm not in charge of problems like this. If I had complete control over an area with a homeless problem, and had no personal accountability, I would alien abduct maybe 10 representative homeless persons and set them up in some kind of debriefing/detox situation with Dr. Dr...
