A meltdown for me consists of short-term energy release into a state of very short-term zen feeling followed by feelings of nausea, failure and numbness for 24 - 48 hours max. I think frustration has been the overarching theme. Reading something every day from Epictetus (The Art of Living, Sharon Le...

I love them. We had the most magical thunderstorm in the Midlands yesterday. The rain was hopping off the ground. I simply had to go into the garden to experience the wondrous intensity of it all. God only knows when we'll get one here again.

I've tried doing "ping pong" projects before, but they never got very far. Hmm, from trial and error I would say realistically I would write 100 words per week and only if I had a deadline that I wouldn’t like to miss. There’s always that Beckett motivational speech (okay, I jest) to keep...

I am interested in trying this too. I asked my son if he’d like to play a writing version of the surrealists’ Exquisite Corpse game...you know, he would write a couple of lines but only let me see the last line; I would expand on that and send him just the last line and after maybe 12 times we would...

I would think being charismatic means: 1) not putting yourself or anyone else down; 2) being interested in what people have to say - this can be difficult especially when a topic might not be your cup of tea (or bluntly, tedious). However, in the context of networking it would be no harm to be a dip...

I was an academic lecturer at an art college for a while and on the evening of the graduate degree exhibition I stood in the corridor staring at the promotional poster made up of the students’ portraits and names. My sister was all ‘you’re spending more time looking at that than the work!’ I was des...
