I tend to manage to hold it in till I get out to the car and poor husband helps me through the meltdown. Just learned this year what that was. Trying to keep a good home environment if at all possible can help (making it a "safer" place by keeping the environment as low stress as possible)...

It would be nice to get a formal diagnosis but its proving to be difficult. It's sad how adults are kind of forgotten about with this. Alas it has gotten even harder this past year, due to the COVID lockdown. Some systems have been developed for diagnosing people via Zoom, but not all therapists wh...

Ach! Gutted to hear that, mate. That's awful - and I can relate.

I certainly hope the situation is better now.

Yes it is better now. I hope you are also in a much better place than back then. It's so sad to be treated like that for things you cannot control.

Why are you fidgeting? Do you need to go to the toilet? No? Well stop that! That's rude, you can't say/do that. You're weird/strange/crazy. If you keep acting like that, the men in white coats will come and take you away. That's not appropriate. Be quiet. Keep your voice down. Why can't you apply t...

Yes, it feels like its been my constant unwanted companion all through life. Between the fear generated by awful sensory issues and feeling on the fringes a lot socially amongst many other things I struggle with fear a lot. I hate it.

I always thought by now in life (at almost 40) that somehow i would be further along but figure it just isnt going to happen. I've worked retail and now am dabbling in a mailroom job and its not what i want to do for long. Honestly at this point a job that will let me make enough without getting int...

I don't technically have a diagnosis, but i do wish I had known a long time ago what was going on with me. It would have saved at least some major anguish. It got so bad as a teenager that i didnt want to be here anymore, i was just getting desperate for the misery of it to stop, without even knowin...

Thank you for the kind welcoming! I did do the Autism Spectrum Quotient test amongst some others, and that one I got like 47 out of 50. I took another test, a different one by myself then took it again with my husband helping and actually got a higher autistic score with his help. Yeah I feel like s...

I'm growing up but I've always felt that I was behind my peers in that sense. I remember at school, when everyone hit puberty I became very withdrawn because I really felt like I was just getting the hang of being a kid and now everyone was too cool to 'play' and do anything I thought was fun. This...

In ways I do feel stunted, it is odd because I do have a job (though all my jobs have been lowly, cant seem to progress much there) and am married. My husband bless him does help me navigate things, hes kind of like my spokes-person. Its awful because I am aware of my deficiencies and how Im not lik...

I don't know, it seems using headphones in some cases is the only way to keep sane without losing it being exposed to loud noise. I know I would have a much more stressful time surviving without them, to the point of possible self harm and melting down completely if I couldn't block the noise someho...

Do others of you have a major hard time dealing with real change in life? It feels like my brain hates changing things with such a passion that it makes me pay for it by what I now know are meltdowns and getting real down and just having a real hard time. I can look back at life and see this playing...

Hello, After lurking on here for quite awhile I finally decided to join especially after learning I pretty much am sure I have autism. It explains all the difficulties I've had my whole life (sensory issues, socializing issues, fixating on certain things to basically obsess about, being just off com...
