Just wanted to let you all know that she did get up on stage and said 2 lines. Milestone! Amazing! I didn't force her and I gave her an out but I did offer huge incentive for doing it. She did it-and did an AMAZING job! Perfectly articulated her lines! She was scared but proud of herself. Thank you...

She is going to be bored out of her mind in first grade! If she hates it I highly doubt she is going to want to put the effort into making friends and such when she doesn't even want to be there. Is there any way she can split between 1st and 2nd?

I don't think it does settle it - my biggest fear is that my diagnosed autistic son is a prodromal (very early phase) schizophrenic like his mother - he has a 1 in 10 chance that is the case.

I understand your fear, especially going through it with your wife.

My son has been on a 1.5 mg dosage of abilify for over a year and i am slowly reducing it. Now he takes pretty much a speckle of it and I want to take him all the way off. Would anyone recommend giving it to him every other day for a week or two then every other 3 days etc so that he is finally of ...

Obstacle courses are a fun way for gross motor planning. Just use stuff around the house! Jumping jacks are tricky. Do just feet first. Then hands. Then combine. :) Linking really helps in general. Because sequencing is such a vital part in gross motor planning, teaching it piece by piece is really ...

Just for fine motor or for gross as well? Fine motor - Even playing with playdough can help strengthen the hand muscles. Use toothpicks or little sticks to draw in the playdough. Fine motor activities: Legos Tearing up newspapers, magazines- kids love this because it is fun. Crinkle them up and play...

Schizophrenia typically doesn't really have signs until the person is in their 20's, late teens at the earliest that I'm aware of. Have you talked to their psychologist about it?

She has been a long time contributor and many of us here are close with her. She has obviously been through a lot, why be mean when you can be understanding? Don't throw the ...

I used to like to come in here and I got helpful information and I shared information that I learned but lately all I see are people talking about what types of medication to use. This is very distressing for me. Our children's brains are growing, and giving them the types of medications that some ...

Medication is a very personal choice. I would hope every parent here can understand that each parent is doing what they feel is best for their child. We may not always agree with one another, but we can still be of support.

I hope you come back soon. I will miss your insightful posts!

Also, I would keep a mood chart for her to keep track of how her mood and behaviors change on the new drug. It is helpful for the doctor to see and if there are any concerns, you can catch them early. Maybe using https://www.moodtracker.com/ will be helpful? Sometimes it takes a couple tries before ...

I have looked into PANDAS. There is one group of doctors in Arkansas that believe in this. They are about three hours away. I even called and talked to Harvard about it. They said treatment is geared toward children in the beginning stages. It has to be within the first 6 months because it is a fai...

Every kid is different in their visual-spatial skills and fine motor skills. Most kids can learn by 2nd grade, but I know some kids who took until 3rd. Breaking it down step by step is helpful. At first have them just do the initial cross over and loop under, then finish the rest for them. Once they...
