That poor kid.

But I wouldn't rush to blame the shadow. The perps would have waited until the kid was unattended, eg. in the toilets or between classes or waiting for the school bus.

Types 3 and 4 don't overlap, sorry! Can you choose one based on which is worse for you, the repetitive behaviours or the social impairments? If your social issues are mainly in verbal area, you could go with Type 2/4 "Classic". Or if you have severe social impairment, and your repetitive b...

I made them up!
Just wanted to give people options if they thought they fell between two types.

So for example, if you had high IQ but also severe social impairment and you were not sure if you fell under type 1 "aspie" or type 3 "alien", you could go with "sensitive".

I've gone with "aspie" for myself.

This is because, although I do have social impairments and repetitive behaviours, they don't seem to be as bad as for some on this site. And I have mostly high IQ (though my auditory processing, and processing speed in general, is really really bad).

So, this was inspired by a recent paper which used machine learning to identify 4 autism subtypes. Below is my sketch version with names for the four subtypes, plus I've added some intermediate ones for those on the boundaries. Apologies if the naming offends, I tried to use words that we or others ...

Apologies for the hiatus. Last week I made a diagram showing my version of the 4 subtypes (plus some intermediate ones I made up, in case you are on the boundaries). But being technologically challenged it's taken until now to work out how to post it. Apologies for the type naming, I tried to use na...

THIRDLY There is more explanation of the brain connectivity and traits of each subgroup. This is where it gets a bit confusing. It seems like they are saying that both over-connectivity and under-connectivity of the same network can produce autism traits (?) Also there are compensatory mechanisms a...

SECONDLY They considered whether autistics clustered into subgroups with similar patterns of connectivity within these 3 dimensions. I'm not quite sure what they did here, it's something statistical. But the result was that they identified 4 subgroups. These subgroups displayed differences in both ...

Thanks Recidivist, you're a star! I'm reading the article and will try to summarise in plainer language, as far as I understand it. This might take 3 or 4 posts - it's a complex study. But what they've done is awesome! Not perfected yet but leading the way in distinguishing autism subtypes. So FIRST...

Mine are similar. (But lower scores than many on this site).
eg Isabella 8O

Is it a meltdown if I'm overstimulated and hate everyone and want to stab every customer who comes through my line and I have trouble responding to them verbally unless I really need to and I can't make myself put on a friendly persona? Or is that more shutdown? Or just being overloaded? Definitely...

I'm not backing down... If I let people put more than 3 options there would be lines everywhere and I wouldn't be able to differentiate subtypes. You've got to limit yourself to the 3 traits which are worst/strongest. Please do your best! Some further reading re. a paper proposing 4 subtypes (see my...

I'm not quite sure if verbal intelligence means the same as verbal abilities. If it's the same, then the 4 subtypes are across 3 domains, something like this: 1. verbal ability good - social communication poor - repetitive behaviours less poor 2. verbal ability good - social communication less poor ...

I'm still a little confused, to be honest. But my take on that article is that these are the four subtypes: 1. High verbal intelligence, severe social communication deficits, less repetitive behaviours. Associated with hyperactive visual processing, with oxytocin as a hub protein. 2. High verbal int...

I wouldn't mind if I knew the government would put the extra money to good use.
And if they taxed the highest income earners appropriately so we all share the pain.

Yikes.
When I read the OP I thought the review sounded like a "good thing", until I read the responses.
I'm obviously out of touch with how bad things have got in the UK.
