I have a friend who's bipolar (but not Aspie) whose special interest (anyway) is writing. She says similar things as you when she's depressed: No motivation for writing, and that it is hard. Which makes life feel rather hollow, unjoyful, and meaningless. She tries to "force" herself to do some writi...

I'm not sure any relationship could handle it, honestly. If one side is socially normal, probably not, as they need different things. You're right. I agree. I almost edited my response to add that my statement was kind of assuming either an NT/Aspie relationship, or an AS/AS relationship where at l...

so if someone said they have 6 month shutdowns, you would be ok with that or no? It really does not matter if I am ok with it, its not something that is typically all that controllable, however I find it doubtful shutdowns typically last for 6 months. what i mean is.... how long would you wait? wou...

so if someone said they have 6 month shutdowns, you would be ok with that or no? Just as an aside: It's handy that you happened to bring up the 6-month time frame, because that's probably my maximum (at least, that's what I told myself in my mind; who knows how my emotions might battle me, sooner t...

I also disagree a bit with Attwood. Firstly, there's almost nothing on women with Aspergers and what little there is, is hopelessly pigeonholed. For example, I have a very healthy sex drive, even post-children. Also, I may be naive in some respects, but I'm very worldly in others. that chapter is m...

(I'm a praying type. So I'll pray.) Thanks, I am, too, and I really appreciate that. Please pray for a clearer diagnosis for me because floundering and not getting the right treatment is not helping! The only things I have in my arsenal (NSAIDs, ice packs and heat wraps) are not doing anything and ...

I suppose if I had looked for an exact autistic copy of myself, that things would be very difficult. I'm just saying, it's likely possible to find someone with the same disability that can compliment you :) Totally. :D *nods* While I may not be AS, I have a lot of weaknesses where my (AS) gf has st...

why are you on about bad hair days and vampire series? that doesn't sound like most (or even many) women. The way some of the women where I work carry on about even the most trivial things, you'd think that they were eligible for disaster relief every other day! that doesn't mean most women are lik...

It's uncomfortable, mostly. We don't usually show emotions like that, and we don't know how to respond to them (including when they're from women - ladies, if your man doesn't show you affection when you're upset, it isn't because he doesn't care but because he doesn't know what the hell to do ). A...

While I think this - You want to be on the receiving end in a relationship, but you don't want to put anything of yourself into it. Everyone, including NTs, who want to be in relationships need for it to be a two way street. You are obviously not ready to contribute your share into a relationship, s...

But I fear I'm crossing a crucial line. I need to be focusing on my work as a filmmaker, but I have felt increasingly distracted from it of late. And this seems a crucial line...when obsessions and fixations are interfering with one's very life . All I know is that that is the very definition of wh...

Follow-up: On a personal note, my sweetheart is 'back' and we're talking, and I believe everything is going to be fine. However, I still really want to know more perspectives from AS people here on what/how, ideally, your partner would respond like, when you are just coming out of a shutdown. Thanks!
