The whole "incel" thing makes me grateful I was born back in the '80s, and I feel sorry for The Youth Of Today. If I had been exposed to these ideas when I was younger and more naive, I might well have been suckered into the incel trap. We're of the same generation. I came up with the ide...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: help writing an autistic character?

I'm a writer too. I'd say try to follow the same rules for any character you create, autistic or not - try to make them a complete character with depth and texture. You can get away with tropes and stereotypes as long as your character isn't entirely constructed of them. What I mean is, autistic peo...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Autistic people can read most emotions in facial expressions

I can recognise emotions in peoples faces except I'm generally not looking at their faces because that's extremely uncomfortable to do.

Interesting that anger would be a block though.

Yes, I really struggle socially. I can just about get along if I'm talking to one or two people, I shutdown in groups of people. My mind goes blank and I just let others talk. I think I probably come across as aloof or disinterested, or just uninteresting. I have no problem when I consider there to ...

I used to play Doom an awful lot in my teens. I actually preferred making wads to playing it a lot of the time and I'd lug my 486 PC over to a mate's house and we'd play one-on-one deathmatch over a serial link. It was awesome. What else? The early Command & Conquer games were big favourites. Th...

The first games I remember seeing in homes were the LCD games like the Nintendo Game & Watch series, Frogger and Tomytronic 3D games.

Then I started to see the 8-bit microcomputers and I had one by the time I was 8.

It's never too late, but it is difficult, particularly if you've already built some kind of life for yourself and need to maintain that throughout whatever changes you want to make. I've been trying to change careers for years now, but I keep getting sucked back into what I've always done because it...

Yeah, I feel I've not explained this very well. I don't want to give the impression that the reason I prefer masturbation is because my partner is less attractive to me these days or anything much to do with her at all. Even when I did find her physically alluring, a lot of the time I found sex to b...

My psychology 101 take on Minecraft is that give a lot of us the sort of agency that we wish we had in the real world. It's a kind of hunter/gatherer thing, that simplicity of going out into the world and collecting what you need to survive, then making life easier for yourself by acquiring more and...

All anyone has to do is spend five minutes looking around in a public place at some of the people who have successfully attracted a partner and they'll rapidly see how important good looks are. You're right, blaming your appearance is just a way of absolving yourself of responsibility for making any...

Situation with neighbours becoming unbearable. Started looking at the local property rental market. Very depressing and stressful. I don't like my home, but it's bigger, cheaper and better situated than anything else out there. Feeling trapped.

I generally find it stressful. Doubly so if the country I'm travelling in isn't an English speaking country - it's hard enough talking to people in my own language. Having said that, I have travelled a bit and I have fond memories of the places I've been. So I don't enjoy travelling so much as enjoy...

Have you explained this? Maybe she doesn't really want sex either. Some people just do it to please their partner. Libidos change, and partners need to roll with it. We do talk, we've been together a looong time and she knows mostly where I am. The only thing here we haven't talked about are my adv...

Cool. No being bullied isn't an illness. But it can affect your mental health. Which can become an illness. Just like eating bad food all the time isn't an illness. But it can lead to diabetes. Which is. So it's not an illness, but it's a matter of health. That's all I meant. Glad to hear you're tak...
