It takes time to integrate a dx. Remember, most people prior to dx have lived a life unconsciously over-compensating for something they never could put a name to. Integration takes time and lots of self care and love. 15 years on from my dx I no longer feel in limbo, or in that liminal place. I too ... |

The increasing trend to start up WhatsApp Groups for people to keep in touch with each other is very challenging for me because of my difficulties in small talk. Whilst I can see the value of a WhatsApp group, I am coming to see that overall they complicate rather than compliment my participation in... |

As a child I was told daily by my foster parents that I was odd and affected. To avoid humiliation I unconsciously crafted my ways of adapting so as to conceal my idiosyncratic ways. As an adult, post dx, I have the power of choice as to whether I communicate my natural autistic ways. Thankfully, I ... |

I love that line from the old 30's jazz song: "It ain't what you do but the way that you do it... that's what gets results." When we feel so passionately about our convictions, I think it is wise to deeply reflect on the means we use to achieve our ends. It seems to me that not doing so is... |

All the meet-ups I have attended for people in the autism spectrum I have observed that emotional reciprocity is well within our ability, particularly on a one to one basis and often expressed with great intensity. |

I see myself as a Spiritual Being on a human journey of which embodiment and autism is just a fleeting experience. However, my intuition tells me that diminishing the relative dimension (being human, my sex and my human needs and desires) is not why I am here. As a teacher of the Alexander Technique... |

My foster parents were obsessed with being "Normal." Growing up, each day I was told I was odd, percular, deranged. To survive I had to conceal all my idiosyncratic ways and quirks as if my life depended upon it... which it did. Subsequently, I unconsciously crafted my masking skills to su... |

I intuitively sense that the greater the adversity we face when growing up, the greater and more refined our adaptive skills become. If we have a more right brained dominant bias, greater still will our masking become. Many in the spectrum who have experienced profound childhood neglect often become... |

Living in the unknowing only worked well for so long. The DX gave me freedom to live life free of ignorance and the suffering that can bring. |

The facts have always been helpful to me in the long term; living in denial of the facts has always been unhelpful to me. |

I was pondering on gracefulness recently as a friend of mine said recently that I move very gracefully. I was curious, I have known in the past many people in the spectrum who are graceful and even elegant in the way they hold themselves in life. And yet I have met many who have an awkward way of wa... |

I seek perfection in things I feel passionate about. However, such means of achieving an end nearly always prove foolhardy. It is for this reason that I have been drawn to mindfulness and unconsciously I feel this is what drew me to becoming a teacher of the Alexander Technique. |

Over the years I have learned to be aware of the tale tale signs when I start to get overwhelmed, which if I'm not mindfully attentive lead to meltdowns and shutdowns. For example, I know I could be starting to get overwhelmed when: ▪️ I start shallow breathing ▪️ When OCD attempts to control people... |
