There's no question begging because it's not an argument, it's a scenario. You're missing the point, which is that carrying a gun harms no one and therefore should not be banned. The same is true of nerve gas. Nerve gas does not kill people, people kill people right? So it therefor should be legal,...

That definition of 'harm' is too restrictive in this context. For example, Neither owning a few tons of h...

What's the given situation? The person carrying a gun is not going to use that gun in a way that violates the law while the smoker is polluting the air with nasty cigarette smoke without regards for his fellow human beings. The reason why this is the situation for our exercise is because the debate...

Well, consider the question: What is the SUM of all real numbers less than one? It must be infinity because the resultant sum is greater than the sum of the harmonic series 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4.....etc. Similarly for any number less than one. Only this time you're removing a finite set of the first ...

Swords are also much more combat specific than guns; with the exception of a handful of boar hunting swords they were almost entirely designed for battlefield use, where as guns are more like bows in that they've always had parallel sporting and hunting designs and markets in addition to purely mar...

Religion is just uttering nonsense and then pretend to have some question answered. Then force or delude people into accepting the 'answer'. And as Muslim. I belive that that ultimate goal of Islam is victory over the enemy and unity. Today we are young and 20% of the worlds population holds 75f% of...

Well, hunting big game, for one. Then a rifle is better. Moreover, there exists explosive shells designed for the standard 12 gauge shotguns. http://www.defensereview.com/exclusive-video-aa12-machine-shotgunfrag-12-grenade-weapon-system-test-fired/ What problem because of prohibition you are talkin...

Really look no further than the US. There IS reasonable regulation on weapons, namely, the NFA on machine guns and destructive devices - The whole system is statewide, may-issue and does not have obvious loopholes like private transfer. How many crime in the last 20 years involve these weapon types...

So, with the term "arms," the pro-gun folks here think that shoulder-mounted grenade launchers should be available for public use, with no background check, no registration, and no waiting period? Am I correct in saying that you think that constitution guarantees that right? Read my post again, I s...

show me any examples of any of these measures reducing crime, preferably somewhere with a passing resemblance to the US so that we're not comparing apples to oranges. Really look no further than the US. There IS reasonable regulation on weapons, namely, the NFA on machine guns and destructive devic...

I just wanted to point out how it isn't applicable to expect a physical scientific explanation for something non-physical. Having said that, my explanation of it would be that our physical brain is influenced by the non-physical aspect of our identity (call it spirit, soul, or whatever). Our brain ...

Yes. Give us a falsifiable theory of how does the physical interact with the spiritual and evidence supporting it.

And I think it makes sense if we consider our brain to sort of be a necessary "conduit" between the physical universe and something non-physical (a "spirit", "soul", "essence", or whatever). It would easily explain why we can't interact with the physical world without our brain being operational. I...

As you said on another thread "Quining Qualia" ( OP by Wittgenstein ) I just _pretend_ Batman exists when reading the story for the sake of enjoying the story. "Subjective experience" and "subjective truth" have been "useful ( and enjoyable ) fictions" for me the last few years, like "god"/belief i...

And don't you think that a fair God would give the common courtesy of irrefutable, solid evidence, for a solid basis of belief, since the (infinitely disproportionate) punishment for disbelief is allegedly eternal torture in fiery hell? Doesn't that seem more like dark ages "justice" than divine? I...
