I had a friend who enlisted the help of the Son-Rise program. Essentially it is a "cure" for autism. It's expensive because you hire someone to come to your house and "evaluate" your child (and how you interact with him/her) and then prescribe a therapy regimen, then it seems rather involved with vi...

As an Aspie myself, I've struggled with being flexible, spontaneous and having rigid schedules. If I'm completely left alone, I'm fairly flexible but completely unmotivated. With people around I need to create schedules and I have a really hard time understanding others' spontaneity. My son definite...

My son is 8 and we still need schedules. Not the elaborates ones anymore. But I do write down the weekly events.

But I would definitely use a daily schedule for a preschooler.

Yeah, I wasn't meaning you should cut the tree down for safety reasons. I was saying that this man should be forbidden from performing "stupid human tricks" on your property. I would just tell your son that you don't think the "house" is safe for him to play in anymore. You could refer to the...

I'm completely lost. This man got mad at you because you told him to get down off your (dangerous) tree. Okay? Then he said that his kids couldn't play with your kids. Right? Now the part where I'm lost is where you're asking if it's okay to send your kid over there? Is that what you're asking? If t...

Well, it's hard to say. I mean, I would hope that they're documenting it in a complete way, including the triggers and proscribing a solution. IN our case, the administrators have acted really nice and then went ahead and handled it as if my son were NT anyhow and we've had to force a change of perc...

AS or autistic culture can only exist if you understand that there are other autistics out there and you can related to them in some meaningful way. "Wrong Planet" implies the often prolonged period that those of us don't know there are others like us. Even knowing and communicating online with othe...

Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't understand how you can perceive the suspension to be "warranted" when his words weren't even heard by the supervising adult. It sounds like the class was out of control and he joined in. Why is he then singled out? You shouldn't allow your kid to be the pun...

My husband and son generally run really hot. When my son was a lot more "affected" (for lack of better word) he was like a boiler. In the middle of winter, he could sleep in our bed and we'd sweat. It seemed to be something related to their bodies working at a higher metabolism in an effort to cope ...

My son also has it worse in the spring due to allergies and during long holiday periods if we don't have enough scheduled. Right now I'm planning on scheduling stuff in during the week so he doesn't go stir-crazy in the house. Winter has the Christmas holiday which is unstructured time + anxiety ove...

I lived in California and was told that school districts did not have to accept Asperger's dx's for IEPs. They didn't qualify as a disability. My son is autistic and even with his diagnosis (from the MIND institute) they still did their own evaluation. I have even heard of introverted autistic stude...

I just got an email alert about the principals being assigned dual schools here in town. It turns out that your principal will be also taking our school. Can you please tell me about her? Do the teachers seem to like her? Do the parents and kids? Is she pretty good about autism? I'm assuming she is ...

this may sound weird but a question to those of you who are seperated or divorced, does your ex help the kids get something for you for special occasions like this Only being separated for a week, I don't know but my husband tried to take out my son for to shop for a MOther's Day gift but Pop was a...

Sinagua, I'm ashamed to admit that last year I had a tantrum over not celebrating MOther's Day. My son misunderstood what the teacher meant by "doing something special" with your mothers and he ragged on me all day to take him somewhere fun (arcade, mini golf). I didn't get crap and my husband worke...

For the OP, yes my son does this and yes, I have a tendency to think this way (but don't verbalize it). I verbalize the opposite, "nothing much" or "Oh alright". But yeah, a single thought (true or false) can ruin my day and/or week. My son's day can be ruined or saved by a mistake in a videogame. A...
