Contrasting colours like red and green can interact in a way that make one colour seem to be in 3D. I also have tinnitus which is a "ringing hiss" for me. When the world around me is very quiet I experience the phenomenon known as "The Hum". Search for it on Wikipedia. It's like ...

One of our (autists) most problematic faults is often questioning ourselves too much. I do it all the time. I'm slowly learning to listen to and trust my inner voice. I have had a similar experience but it lasted for 10 years and we have a child together. Be thankful it ended when it did. We are oft...

Thanks Toughdiamond. I'm not sure I can tell I have a stronger response when it really is who I think it is. I'll have to look out for that in the future.
I have problems with movie plots but I don't associate it with face blindness as I have the same problem with books.

My two cents... Ketamine (and the US patented Esketamine, which is just one of the isomers) are useful for treating depression mostly. It's an anesthetic, so it kills ALL pain which means it's addictive. History is littered with casualties. OK if administered in a medical setting, otherwise be very ...

Thanks for the replies. Mountain Goat - your college story sounds scary. That would blow my mind, though I can imagine it happening to me. I also sometimes smile in the hope of them recognizing me. Not working so great with all the mask wearing! ezbzbfcg2 - what I meant was that I don't mistake stra...

I often find myself seeing a person and identifying them as someone I know, only to find they're a complete stranger. It seems as if I put people into "categories" of similar looking faces. It only happens with the faces of people I have occasional contact with. Not close friends or family...

As far as nasty fluids go check out piranha solution. 98% sulphuric mixed with 30% hydrogen peroxide. Great for eating up organic matter! Terrifying stuff you can make at home!! ! I use that occasionally in lab for cleaning glassware. Between it and aqua Regia, those acids help get the glass to spa...

I'm the same as fnord. It doesn't work for me. I have wondered before about how many of us can or cannot be hypnotized. I feel it could perhaps tell us something about the groups autists might be better divided into.
Seems to me to be something about the internal definition of self.

A therapist explained to me the 4 false beliefs we carry from childhood out into the world. There must be justice. Everyone must like me I should be able to do it perfectly It should be easy None of these is true. But we tend to believe them. That mismatch leads to lots of grief. Banging my head aga...

Sometimes we need to give ourselves a break. After a meltdown I know I'm going to take time to recover. Be gentle with yourself. Most things are not as desperate as they seem.

To me "atheist republic" sounds like the type of forum that's likely full of ideologically petrified activist types. Activism is useful but being an activist typically means being deeply emotionally involved which is the antithesis of being rational.

As several others have already said, I thought I did all the reading people and conversation skills fairly well despite being shy. Until I discovered my understanding of the situation was limited. This was also a trait I thought excluded me from ASD. Turns out I have obvious problems with my communi...

In any situation there are elements I can control (my behaviour) and others I cannot (other people's behaviour). Understanding the distinction is how I manage to not feel overwhelmed by the situation. If I expend all my energy worrying about what I cannot control I go crazy. As soon as i focus one w...

Is it not possible your therapist is asking you to drop your narrative of what you understand is happening (and perhaps focussing on watt is being done to you) and asking you to focus on what YOUR involvement in the situation is. In my experience the idea is to pull back from discussing what others ...

I also get over florid with my wordage! I think it's fun for me and frustrating for others. I offer get odd looks.
