I have the YouTube app but the ads have increased over time. Why can't there just be one ad at the beginning then maybe a couple of 10-second ads throughout the video? Why do some ads have to go on for several minutes unless you're attentive to the screen where you have to press skip?
Ads make me so angry that I feel like punching the people in them, all cheery and usually American, trying to encourage you to download something you don't want, like Grammarly. I don't even need Grammarly, I have my brain to work out how I write, so piss off! (Aimed at the ads, not anyone in this thread).
I've never used the YT app but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that it's a trap. I've heard a lot of complaints from people using the Facebook app. The great thing about using a browser instead of an app is that you can use browser plugins and other tricks to get rid of the unwanted rubbish. But with Netflix I have to use the app because in my case the browser can't stream Netflix fast enough, so the video glitches.
I feel much the same way as you on the rare occasions I do see ads. I did a search for examples of honest ads, and there was hardly anything. But there was this:
https://velocitypartners.com/blog/6-exa ... marketing/It's the only time since I was about 20 years old that I've seen ads and haven't felt even annoyed. Two reasons for that:
1. They were honest.
2. Nobody pushed them on me, I had to find them myself.
Until all advertisers obey those 2 simple rules, all we can do is avoid them by hook or by crook. Like all wars, at best it's a shameful waste of time, but they started it, and there's a certain satisfaction in successfully fighting back.
