Lately the sound on my computer when on YouTube or playing games online is distorted. I unhooked the speaker system and tried earphones directly into the tower and had the same problem, however when I tried the earphone with a Scrabble game disc (off-line) I had no problem. Does anyone know why this could be. Talk to me like I'm 4. :)

Sounds like an issue between network-card and soundcard. I'v tried something similar before.
Normally I would say "Update drivers for both (especially soundcard)", but in this case I would rather ask: "How old is your computer?"

It's a rebuilt one-I'm not sure of age-I bought it from a computer repair shop-it's an "emachine"

It's fairly new.
Then you shouldn't have those problems... :?

Do you know what soundcard it is ? (You can check it if you doubleclick on the speaker in the corner. Then it should read it in the bottom.)
XP?, Vista?, Ubuntu?, SuSe?, Other?

I'm sorry where do I find that? I checked sound devices and all said to be working properly. My operating system is XP Home.

Start -> Control Panel -> Switch to Classic... -> Sounds and Sound devices.
(As good as I can translate from the Danish version of Windows).

Then it should read it in the top.

You should be able to read it already at the first tab, right under the tabs.
If not, go to the "Hardware" tab, and write down everything and post it here.

Go here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

And download the Executable version. (Second on the list).
Then try installing that one, and restart your computer. See if it then works.

Just tick the "I accept to the above." box, wait for the page to refresh so the next-button becomes clickable, then click next.

Then you should get the download list.

sure, as long as it doesn't have anything to do with computers. :) I post on WP and thought this particular forum would be a good place to get some help. I am not of the computer generation-when I was a little girl, my father who was a civil engineer did computer programming. That was back in the days when the computers were huge and used those punch out cards.

...and in some ways they can still be just as difficult, or even worse!
