I was obsessed with Dinosaurs and other extinct life forms when I was younger. Still am in a way. I recall being in first or second grade and getting angry at pictures of Dinosaurs at school because placing certain Dinosaurs in the same environment is historically anachronistic. Yep. What a lame kid...
My favorite when I was a kid was probably Allosaurus

Strange thing about dinosaurs - all of my nephews and their kids have had/are having dinosaur phases.

Which type of Pteranodon was your favourite? Ingens or Sternbergi? I'm guessing Ingens as it's the "poster boy" of Pteranodons and it's the one most people picture when they imagine a Pteranodon.

When I was a kid almost every generic toy stuffed bird just simply had to be an Archaeopteryx. Either that or a Gastornis.
According to me, anyway....

Apparently yes, there are: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/jdsml/nature-onlin ... aurolophus

I do hope so! I must have therefore seen them before as a kid then. I wish they put pictures of the fossils on their site, but I suppose if they did, many people wouldn't go to the museum....

I used to get annoyed when I saw certain dinosaurs that would never have lived together or at the same time placed together in cartoons and stuff. I'll join you in ultimate lamitude.

And I always preferred Allosaurus to Tyranosaurus. Tyranosaurus wasn't as great as people made it out to be, in my opinion.

Oh Ingens, no question. (but I had to check with Google first - too long ago now for the finer details to survive)

There were a couple of small plastic models I had and especially liked for their skin texture and other fine modelling detail, but apart from those it was all books and museum visits.
I was at the NHM a couple of years ago and was amazed at the range of dinosaur-related toys and goodies available. It was quite dry and academic when I went there as a kid: I think the best the entertainment got was the loan of a sketchpad and pencil to do some drawing.
Eeh, we really knew how to live.

I only refreshed my memory of Pteranodons a few days ago when I saw the two different types in a book.

The Natural History Museum is really great now for kids (and was when I was 10) and the last time I went I was like a small child in the gift shop. We kinda snuck in unnoticed as it was closing, and pretty much got turfed out after a few minutes. But I was starting to feel all excited seeing all the dino things in there.

And the first time I went I bought my first Parasaurolophus toy in there! :D

Of course I loved dinosaurs! Every kid does!
Pterosaurs are by far the most awesome creatures ever. And it's also funny you guys all mention the Natural History Museum...It's the only thing I remember from my first trip to England because they had SO MANY DINOSAURS.

Believe me, not every kid loves dinosaurs. The children in my Primary school made that very clear for me.

I simply cannot bear to wait until I go back to the Natural History Museum. I think it must have one of the best dino collections in the world, if not the best. It was just such a shame that I couldn't see them the last time I went. They were so close yet so far away!! :x

My nephew's eldest certainly didn't - he was scared s**tless of the full-sized animated Tyrannosaurus they'd all gone to see and had to be taken outside (much to his dino-loving and younger brother's disgust).
When I was last there the whole display was dismantled for repair, but a leg and the head were still on view.
Hmm, impressive. Those things were chunky. 8O

I vaguely remember seeing the animated Tyranosaurus on display there when I was 10. Can't wait to see it again. Last time I went to the museum so many memories came flooding back to my mind. I'd expect myself to remember big occasions in my life....

(Why is it my memories are so damn vague when I've been over excited about something? All the big moments in my life are so hazy, yet I remember completely mundane things from flippin' YEARS ago!)

@ Cornflake (and anyone else I suppose)

Seeing as you mentioned liking the Archaeopteryx, I thought maybe you'd be interested in these early birds of the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods:

Shuvuuia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuvuuia

Confuciusornis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confuciusornis

Hmm, pretty good - especially Confuciusornis.
I remembered Hesperornis but the others are too recent for me to have heard of.

Has anyone got any of these books? They are very good, although perhaps a bit outdated by now. I got these all about 10 years ago.
