its a long shot but you could try uninstalling blender and reinstalling it, see if that makes a difference.

Really the faces shouldn't behave like this unless you've got 2 or more layers going through each other.

I suppose I will have to try that, because I have rebuilt the offending areas, and the problem remains.

looks like a planarity problem, and subsequent badly aligned triangulation/tesselation. i can see many of these all over the geometry… :?

unfortunately i have not much experience in using blender. i use other 3D (solid) modelers in my work.

check your smooth angles.

is it possible making the .blend file of the gun available for dowload? then people could try to solve or observe the problem directly, themsleves.

mediafire is a good site for that as long as the filesize is under 100 megs.
