I would like to know how to program. What language would be best to start with? What are some good tutorials to read?

I would appreciate the help, there are so many languages to choose from...

Try PERL.

Python or Processing.

Both are aimed at beginners. Both are widely cross platform.

Just like computerlove, they dont discriminate where they put their USB devices.

Python or VBS if you programming for the dreaded proprietary M$ programs.

Python seems to be the one to learn for beginners at the moment.

Java is a common beginner's language, and a good choice because it runs on most platforms (every major operating system as well as Windows, as my CS prof would say). For whatever reason Linux people seem to like Python a lot.

Sun has been moving to open-source Java, and the components which are not fully open-source yet are being rewritten and replaced. As long as I see something moving in the right direction, I'm willing to support it.
