I'd like to have music files in my computer to add to photo presentations I make in Picasa. Can I save a song from a CD I have? If not, is it possible to download music from the internet for free and legally ?

You need a media player if you are going to rip a CD. You simply go to the media player (windows media player, itunes, winamp, etc.) and rip the CD. It will add the songs onto your computer.

If that is not what you mean and you mean to add them to Picasa from there, I am not familiar with Picasa. As for downloading music /legally/ it all really depends on what the music is.
