So I'm producing a comedy video with a friend and I hooked myself up with Final Cut Pro to edit it. I got the basics down, but can anyone recommend any tricks or tips? For example the video is a combination of filmed footage of us and DVD clips edited together, but when previewing it in the Slug the only type of files I can even get to play to get the clips I need are .mov's, and those don't have the kind of picture quality I'd like. But .mpeg's and .avi's just gum up on me.

This is just one example but if anybody has advice for the Final Cut newbie about this and more I'd appreciate it.
