My mouse is making a "toot" sound every time I minimize or maximize a window. I hope you find this a humorous thread title  , I do, but seriously, I would like help with this.

The sound comes from the speakers, it's faint, goes away if I turn the speakers all the way down. I tried a different mouse and the same thing happened. There is no sound effect assigned to minimize or maximize. This seems to have just started and the only thing I've changed recently is my new monitor. Pls help?

try reinstalling your mouse or sound card drivers, sometimes they get a little wonky.

Check your Sound options, in Control Panel. Perhaps you-or someone who uses the computer-has inadvertently set it up to make that noise when a window is maximised/minimised/whatever it is.

EDIT: Next time I'll read more carefully :P That was my only suggestion, unless there's an independent setting dialog for your sound card/drivers.

How exactly does this relate to your mouse?

Actually, it's not the mouse click that triggers it, it's the minimizing or maximizing a window. I clicked a program to open it, and it took a few secs, then tooted when the window opened.

It might be interference from your new monitor. Try moving your speakers away from it.

Good suggestion - I tried but it didn't make a difference. But it seems less noticeable today. More faint, and it's making a "blip" noise instead of a "toot."

Then it'll probably go away. Computer equipment gives off stray electrical signals that can run through your entire house. When I turn off my monitor my keyboard blinks, I don't know why. :)
