Anyone else like them? I used to have a massive obsession with them when I was about 8 - 10 years old. And I think I'm starting to get quite interested in them again. I dug out my old collection of Dinosaur related toys and models the other day, as well as a couple of books from the attic (the model collection does have some other prehistoric animals too, not just dinosaurs).

I still have loads of books up in the attic, which I might bring down into my bedroom soon (I had to sell a load of them when I was about 12 or so, because there were getting far too many of them, but I kept all the really good ones. Just got rid of all the kids ones and the ones I had outgrown). I still have a few missing models too which I will look for.

I also have a small fossil collection in the attic that I haven't seen for years now. I will look for those too at some stage.

I am starting to get particularly interested in Parasaurolophus, and I would welcome any little known facts about them.

So, please share all the knowledge you can about Dinosaurs here! (You can also discuss Pterosaurs, Plesiosaurs and Pliosaurs).

This is all so nostalgic! :D

Oh YES!! That was MY childhood obsession too!! !! My Dad worried so, because his little girl didn't want Barbies or anything like that! I wanted the meanest model dinosaurs I could find, so they could face off in epic battles. I would spend hours obsessing over their colors and markings.
I knew everything there was to know about them and would spout out random facts constantly!! NICE!! 8)

i used to know all the names and plenty of dino trivia, but am probably a bit rusty now

you should go to the natural history museum when you're in london next weekend rabbit, you'll love it and most of it's free

Definitely!
I had quite an interest in dinosaurs and natural history generally, and practically lived there for a while. It's a fantastic place.

I'm the same when it comes to dinosaur facts and trivia. I still know quite a bit, but nothing compared to how much I used to know. I'm doing alright re-learning though at the moment. :D

And I went to the Natural History Museum a few weeks ago with MONKEY (last time I went before that was when I was 10 years old), it was fantastic! But we only really managed to see half of what was there, and the dinosaur exhibition was out of bounds as they were all being cleaned and maintained. Bummer. But we said we'd go again to see the other half of it soon, and I think the dinosaurs will be ready this time round! :bounce:

We also said we'd make a couple of visits to the Science Museum too (I went there once too when I was 10), so maybe next week we might visit one of the museums again, although we won't have a lot of time to really have a good look round, but anyway, it's definitely in my plans to go back there and you're right. I do love it! :thumright:

@ Cornflake, OneStepBeyond and gnatterfly - What were your favourite (or most studied) Dinosaurs, if any?

science museum is another fun free place yeah(: if you don't have much time you should look on the mappy thing first and just go to the bits you're interested in. last time i went we tried to wander round the whole thing and ended up missing the part where you get to play with all the stuff(the most fun part) because we spent too long looking at biro chandeliers and other such gems(!)

oops, this isnt about dinosaurs. Stegosaurus!

No worries, I'm grateful for the advice.

I quite like Stegosaurus (even though they were a bit dim in the head).
Any interesting fudo style QI facts about Stegosaurus you wish to share?

Ah, I see.

My first two ever dinosaur toys were a Diplodocus and a Triceratops! They are called Ike and Tim, Ike being the Diplodocus and Tim being the Triceratops. My dad used to tell me bedtime stories about them, and all the other models and figures I have.

So then, have you got any decent facts about those you wish to share?

I loved dinosaurs back in the day!

My favourites are:

*looks up dinosaurs on Google to find out how to spell them*

Tyrannosaurus Rex
Ankylosaurus
Triceratops
Stegosaurus
Pterodactyl

And more...
Pretty much all the mainstream ones that everyone knows...

Also, speaking of the Natural History Museum in London, the mechanical T-Rex in the dinosaur exhibit is incredible! :D ...As is the entire museum and the Science one, of course :D

I used to adore Ankylosaurus too! It was my childhood favourite.
(Technically a Pterodactyl was a Pterosaur, but I did say I would allow them here, so enough of my pedantry for now :P )

Is the Tyranosaurus robot a new addition? How long has it been there? I seem to remember seeing mechanical dinosaurs there when I was 10, possibly a Tyranosaurus and some Velociraptors or something. But it's all a bit hazy now.... I can't wait to see the Dinosaur exhibition again! Does anyone know if there are any Parasaurolophus fossils there?

My favourites were Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Iguanodon and Pteranodon, mostly - and Archaeopteryx (especially the amazing Berlin specimen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Archa ... men%29.jpg )
Strange thing about dinosaurs - all of my nephews and their kids have had/are having dinosaur phases.
