A third type of dimension different from space and time call

I once read about a hypothetical third type of dimension different from space and time called "superspace". One which can't be measured with a ruler or stopwatch.

Well X, Y, and Z are already 3 dimensions, aren't they? I saw Nova last night where they talked about infinite dimensions "wrapped" like strings around a quark - or something like that. WAY to heady for me!

They are anti-commutative dimensions, the coordinates of which are labeled by the anti-commutative Grassman numbers rather than ordinary numbers. They first arose as concept in physics within the context of string theory, though they are not any of the usual 10 space-time dimensions that string theory talks about.

A physical space without a local metric?

There are myriads of mathematical spaces without metric. Topology deals with many of such kinds of spaces.

In a sense. However, it is neither spacial nor time-like. It's basically a coordinate space in quantum field theories that incorporates what is known as supersymmetry, and are related to the spin of particles and fields. The effect is that bosons can turn into fermions and vica versa, so that supersymmetry predicts that every particle has a partner that differs only by half spin.
