What software plugins do I need to get streaming online audio/video running on my PC? I went on the RTÉ website to listen to something and it wouldn't open as I don't have .smil reading capability. I run an iMac OS X.

Thanks in advance.

No nothing about the subject but I came up with this link:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/streamingserver/

I'm guessing quicktime player 7 is what you may need and not the server

another link

http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/#SMIL

which I get this link

Right, just had a look. No way will any software let me play this audio stream. It seems to have some sort of aversion to Real files!

Any help will of course be appreciated. :)

Post a link to the files you can not play. That way I can see if I
can play them.

Apple Quicktime covers a lot of file formats, but it may not be enough.

To play non DRM-protected files for the latest version Windows Media Player, you will need to download and install the Flip4Mac plug-in. It is available from the Microsoft web page for Mac WMP users. (Microsoft no longer makes a version of Windows Media Player for Mac users.)

For some streaming media, such as that on the BBC's website, you will need the Mac OS X version RealPlayer. It is available from real.com .

To play the .ogg files common on Wikipedia, you will need an Ogg-Vorbis compatible player such as VideoLAN. It is available from videolan.org .

The basic versions of the aforementioned applications are free.

Won't the Mac version of RealPlayer have a ton of crap on it like the Windows version does?

No.

I was as surprised as you are.

Currently I'm using the RTE website, it only seems to support RealPlayer.

You might have already sorted it out!

I have. Downloaded RealPlayer and that fixed it for me. RTÉ Radio 1 and other streamed RealPlayer files play fine now. :)
