This is happening way too fast. I just got used to my current OS (8.1)
They suddenly announce Windows 10 meanwhile "What happened to 9?"
That's the beauty of Windows 10; it skips over 9 and leaves it in the dust.

Any thoughts?

They can't even count straight. Linux seems like the rational alternative.

When I updated from win 8.0 to 8.1, my Skype account became obsolete. Now jumping to win 10? 8O

I hated Windows 8 and 8.1 did nothing for me, so I stuck to Windows 7, Microsoft made such a good system with 7 that they blew it with 8, and from what I'm seeing about 10 doesn't impresses me at all.
Sadly the day I'll change computers I'll be forced to use 10.
In the mean time for my basic stuff, Internet, word processing, downloading I use Linux Mint.
I keep and use Windows because most of the world use it, and it can play games :-p
And I use a system that I absolutely hate but that the industry uses and that is Apple, that I only use for Final Cut and the Adobe suite.

i'm still running win7, and it's good enough.
i also ran vista years into the release of win7, i only upgrade my OS when i get a new system, so my next windows might be win11 by the looks of things, just skipping over a few versions.

sidenote: i have helped someone to install an 8.0 system; what a piece of junk that is; probably great for touch screens, but for desktops.....
win 8.1 isn't a whole lot better as it's just a shell, and one key press shows the 8.0 backbone trough side windows and drag tiles.
i have not looked into the newer versions yet, but i truly hope they go back to splitting mobile and pc windows versions, making 10 more like vista then like 8.

I think Windows peaked with XP. Windows 7 has the "Recent Places" feature, which makes directory navigation easier. But all the other changes I've seen are "disprovements" or distractions.

Where I have to use 7, I installed Classical Shell (free). It makes almost everything work like XP.

I've never used 8, and from what I've heard, it's a POS.

You get used to 8. You just ignore the tiles part the best you can.

I wonder if Microsoft is skipping 9 and going strait to 10 because they want to have the same version number as Apple's OSX?

Microsoft's motto should be, "We get it sort of right every other release."

Well then that would mean that the odd numbered releases are the stable one's and the even numbered ones are the crappy one's. Bad move M$. I think that 10 is gonna be very very bad. should of had 9 first. Or maybe there skipping 9 so the even versions are now the good ones? we will see.

The real reason that Microsoft skipped 9 is that some legacy software only searched for windows 9 when installed on a computer. They did this because the operating system of the 9x line(95 & 98) were so similar that rather than searching for the separate versions it was easier to search for "windows 9".

Ah ah, good one, made me laugh
Except from what I'm seeing about Windows 10, I'll say "We get it sort of right every 3 releases" or "We get it sort of right every 8 years".

Gonna let other people deal with the weirdness for a year or two after release, and then try it depending on reviews. I've just made peace with Windows 8 on my netbook so I'm in no rush for another "new thing" to try.

Wn10 actually loks like you can simulate win7. Love the good old start menu.
