I´m not a computer expert, but I think it means that a program (virus?) overwrited a windows system file and that causes any programs that use it to work wrong or not work at all. Check for viruses and if your computer works badly you may need to get a new file to replace it or reinstall windows. It might be nothing, though. I once deleted a system file since it was infected by a virus and I didn´t even notice anything different in my computer then.

A search finds this link about it.

Sounds like a ms bug not a virus. But check for that too

The very same message appeared the morning after I registered HERE, and it had never appeared before. Nothing seemed/seems to be working differently though, so I (perhaps stupidly) chose to ignore it.

I had something similiar a few days ago, it was because I'd installed FlyaKiteOSX and then run windows update Removing the system files from FlyAKite sorted it for me.
Have you recently run windows update?

great!! ! glad i was able to help, anything else that i can help with?? (dont worry, i speak english and know more about the puter then those brainless techs that charge and dont speak well)

make sure you have all your updates from computer manufacturer and from os,

lastly also what can be the cause of that error if you didnt just recently do a driver dl or a sound card install(opening case and physically putting in a new card) then it can be that you have the sound driver (realtek)unchecked in the MSCONFIG utility in startup tab on your computer.

btw, what is mensch??

Mensch is a Yiddish word meaning a good person.

This sounds similar to an article I read on Slashdot (link). Basically, it was an update to fix a vulnerability in Windows' animated cursors somehow breaking other apps. MS apparently knew this when they pushed the fix, opting to fix the fix later on...

My old PC brings up that message every time you start it up. In my case, it was because my dad was doing some "maintinence" on the computer and accidentaly deleted the .dll in question... and SOMEHOW managed to delete "scandisk" at the same time. It scares me that this is a man who makes software for airlines... I never plan to fly with BA!

haha!

Windows automatically restores deleted system files but I think only XP does it...
there are websites that supply those dlls for free...

why do people always jump to the conclusion a computer problem is a virus, i have never come across any serious problems being viruses in 7 years of fixing other peoples computers and in 12 years never had a virus on my computer.
A virus is usually the LEAST likely thing to cause an error.
at least i can see doordoctor said something sensible, i see i am not alone :D :D
