This thread is about our favorite terrestrial invertebrates. Despite the name of this thread, you don't need to select a member of the hemiptera order.
My favorite bug is the orchid mantis. It is proof that the practice of pollination is not entirely a flawless, utopian form of food collecting. Collecting the sweet gifts of angiosperms can come with a few hazards.

Thanks for posting!
Here are some more honorable mentions that I want to honorably mention.
Onychophora: They aren't arthropods, but they resemble the ancestors of arthropods. Stalk-Eyed Flies: Yikes! Crane Flies: They resemble big mosquitoes, but they are harmless. Mutillidae: Only the males can fly. Only the females can sting. Symphyla: They are very tiny relatives of centipedes.

Most people think I'm weird because I like bluebottles. Yes they may spread disease if they land on your food, but that doesn't mean they don't LOOK beautiful.
I do not have a favorite. Take the last insect that allowed me to befriend it for a bit, and that one is my current favorite.
I don't like mosquitoes or spiders, though. And I used to like ants, but they're really invasive, and I don't want to kill them =/
Tonight at work, I saw this really neat moth next to the sink. Probably the most pine-bark-like moth I have ever seen, and its wings were a very odd shape. I forgot I was going to come back for it and save it, I fear someone may have killed it.

Those are the common crowd pleasers. Except folks are kinda neutral about ants. I, and most folks, like ladybugs, butterflies, fireflies, honeybees, and dont hate bumble bees.

I have always loved watching ants. I used to live near a big conifer plantation where they build huge nests out of pine needles and the waste from the saw-mills, and I could spend hours just watching one nest and following along the trails that the ants made to go get stuff.

The Darwin Termite is a primitive termite with a cockroach-like appearance. This proves that termites share a fairly recent common ancestor with roaches.
