I'm writing a book about a girl with Asperger's Syndrome, I need help because I don't know much about Ai, and would be eternally grateful for any kind of assistance on the matter.

What do you want to know about AI?

Also, could you tell us a little more about your forthcoming book?

Also, are you autistic yourself?

If you want to learn about AI, there is a YouTube channel called Two Minute Papers. The guy from the videos will tell you about the latest in AI and even show demos. If you are writing a book and want to know about real AI then do some research by watching a few videos.

If you wanna see the future you might go to porn sites and click the category called "deep fakes". See all of the countless vids showing the faces of female celebs pasted onto the naked bodies of models while said models do obscene acts..., all created on pc's by private amateurs. They range from the crude to the disturbingly convincing.

If they can make it look like Emma Watson is riding someone then...they can convince you that Biden is announcing that the US is surrendering to the Martian invaders who just landed in New Jersey.

The meaning of AI has sort of gotten lost over the years. The 1956 conference at Dartmouth that originated the term "artificial intelligence" had a distinct program of research. In contrast to early work on neural networks, which aimed to simulate the physical basis of human intelligence, AI was deliberately "artificial", in the sense of starting from first principles rather than imitating anything.

Early work focused on applications of first-order logic, but it was soon realized that this was not enough to do much. A reasoning system needs premises to reason from. So there began to be a lot of related investigation of appropriate data structures and use of databases. Common databases used for business are not structured to support much reliable reasoning, but the early AI researchers found structures that could straightforwardly encode logical specifications. Relational databases actually originated out of this work, even though again their commercial use mostly does not pursue any reasoning capability.

In the 80s, there was a boom of so-called knowledge engineering and expert systems. These emphasized practical, real-world applications rather than theoretical research. The insight was that automated systems can do a lot more in specialized areas that are much more likely to have well-defined terms. This stuff was unfortunately over-sold with a bunch of hype, then there was a backlash known as the "AI winter". The research community then turned to more investigation of formal structures, under the name "knowledge representation".

More recently, there has been a huge upsurge in so-called machine learning, which is also related to work on "big data". Google for instance became a main driver of AI research. This is kind of ironic, because machine learning is much closer to the old neural network paradigm than it is the program of AI as defined by the founders. This stuff works by lots of sophisticated number crunching, not any kind of reasoning at all. It is based on principles of advanced statistical analysis. This is what most people think of now when you say "AI".

Sorry lol.
I've never used this site before, so I'm not sure how to properly reply to you, but I could try to elucidate what I was trying to say if you'd like. To answer your other question...Yes, I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome when I was younger. I'm in my early twenties right now though going through college.
Some of my basic questions are:
What are the types of Ai?
Key components and software in creating Ai?
What allows Ai to work and operate?

Are you trying to associate AS with AI?  They are not equivalent.

I'm not, I have AS myself. I just find Ai to be very relevant and I feel there are a lot of themes I could incorporate with it.

I know some things about AI - there have been several phases of over promising and hefty funding, followed by collapse of both. Several AI Winters - currently there is an upswing again it may be followed by another winter - but may not.

Any specific questions?

Have you read the Wikipedia and/or Britannica articles on the subject?

P.S.
I just recalled a connection between Autism and AI. In his book “Look Me In The Eye” John Elder Robison mentions that he has sometimes studied chat-bots (artificial intelligences) to see how they engage in conversation, and to see if he could learn anything thing about social communication from the strategies and techniques they use. He specifically mentions that the chat-bots often make mistakes and so does he. He also said one strategy chat-bots use is to ask questions. He learned to do the same. The Chat-bots he could have studied would have been long before something like ChatGPT and more like Eliza.

I found this interesting because I have sometimes done the same. People who study and create AI have to study the human brain in order to mimic it. In so doing they have to write down the “unwritten rules” and do so in great detail, and greater completion than, say, psychologists or neurologists or sociologists.

Another connection between AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ASD.

AI machine learning is being used to understand complex brain scans and possibly help diagnose ASD.

A guy named David Shapiro has a channel on Youtube, pretty sure he's been in the OpenAI team but don't quote me on that.

There's also Emad Mostaque (Stability AI CEO) who gets involved in the ethics and societal change discussions a lot.

I'd check them out as well as Joscha Bach.

I actually just watched Emad's interview with Tom Bilyeu (Impact Theory) and Emad came out as having Asperger's (so even more direct correlation to this thread than I knew!) and mentioned the had an LFA son that he's been trying to help with respect to finding things that would help make his life easier - to which he came to literature that dealt with a kind of Glutamate / GABA balance and apparently GABAergic support helped to a degree.
