If you use more than one messenger program, that is. I have a couple of AIM buddies but mostly my chatmates are on Yahoo. Rather than having to bloat up the drive with AIM and Yahoo Messenger, I looked for something that could handle all IM programs. I ended up finding Trillian. Does just about everything except Jabber, but for a small fee, I can correct that. Looked into Miranda and GAIM too, but wasn't quite as impressed. What about you other Multi-IMers?

I use Trillian for MSN and AIM. I used to use Miranda since it's so lightweight and customizable, but it and my router had a falling out.

Hmmm...well i use yahoo for yahoo, AIM for AIM and MSN for MSN. I like it that way. Only my computer is so old that I can only run two IM programs at once, so AIM usually gets left behind...I'm rarely on it, simply because almost everyone I have on my AIM list is on another IM as well

For those who use multiple IM services, try Meebo, a web-based IM service that handles MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, GoogleTalk and Jabber all at once.

Skype, for staying in touch with someone on a professional basis. I have all of two contacts on it and one of them rarely sends messages.

I have MSN but it never gets used.

I use GAIM right now because I like the feature that logs every conversation (comes in handy for WP moderating and business purposes).

Another good one that I may try is Kopete. I think they may have a Windows version for that too.

i heard on R4 today that Yahoo (spit) have shopped a man in China - they provided the evidence (his IP address) to the chinese government that he emailed a "dissident" text to the US. he is now serving 10 years in prison. they also have a list of over 7000 banned words, which users are not allowed to use in china - words like "dissident", "public opinion", "freedom", "tienamen square", and so on.

i am appalled by this. it seems that microsoft are as bad. these people are supporting the most awful violations of human rights, for profit (oh, how surprising). although i'm absolutely not a fan of AOL, at least they refused any business in China, for that very reason.

time to find another IM wossname, for me. i think i'm going back to trillian...

which reminds me - if i use trillian, can i speak to people using MSN and YIM?

I communicate with the vast majority of people through AIM, although I like Yahoo Messenger itself more. I don't use MSN that much. I tried using one of those integrated IM clients once, but it wasn't much to my liking.

I use Trillian for Windows, Kopete for Linux. Thats for IRC, YIM and MSN (so yeh you can vetivert - thats what I talk to you on...) - I have an AIM account but rarely have it set up as I have forgotten my password :P

I don't like Gaim for some reason - it just seems light on features and I hate the interface.

I use Skype and I used to use MSN. I really hate (mildly annoyed by) to be offline or online when other people are. Also for some reason there are a group of people on MSN who are convinced that they know me. I've spent hours online trying to convince them that I have no idea who they are. They're convinced that its a joke and I'm hilarous (another fabrication), I'm terrified that they might track me down on Skype and that I'll have to change messanger again.
