We get a new experimental file system!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4

windows NTFS was behind the game in Ext2. Will they ever catch up?

This roving reporter doubts it.

We still have a couple months until the release date, I'll wait for them to work out the bugs. Plus, the only machine I have is a production machine.

Nope. Ext4 will be an option along side Ext2 and Ext3. Default will be Ext3.

When do you think ext4 will be ready to be the default?

Anyways, Debian Lenny was just released as stable this weekend, so I might be switching over to that sometime in order to get a more reliable system. I've been finding Ubuntu a bit buggy. Debian probably won't be on ext4 for a while- they'll have to wait quite a while before it's stable enough for them.

ext4 was marked productions ready but we all know what that means, I think fedora is adopting ext4 as default in 11 could be wrong.
