H.P. Lovecraft's The Deep Ones.

Seriously not bad B grade horror movie. Think of a scaled down Shadow Over Innsmouth, now as a seaside community on the California coast.

Ok. Not great. It was kind of a big deal in 97 but now it seems overrated.

Regarding Watchmen, the comic is so ingrained in me I can't talk about the film without comparing it to the source material, and unoriginally enough I don't think the film is nearly as good.
A lot of the alterations and omissions made in adapting the story actually aren't bad, but the overall film doesn't really work for me. There's no moment to breathe or to get to know the characters at a comfortable pace, it feels like it's rushing through, trying to adept the comic word-for-word and it shows that what works in a comic doesn't work as well in a film. And without the all the omitted backstory (which would've been too much to put in the film) the world it tries to build doesn't feel as complete or as concrete.
The fight scene's aren't bad, but there's too much focus on them. The performances and effects are pretty good. It all feels like it cares less about the comic's story and themes and more about making a cool action movie.
It's VERY Zack Snyder-y, and I like his style a lot less with every film of his I watch.

Land Before Time I'd seen before. It still surprised me by how dark and dreary a lot of it is, but avoids becoming depressing because of how unbelievably cute the characters are. A Don Bluth film through-and-through. The story is simple but the characters make it engaging. The animation is fantastic. The only problems I noticed are some odd continuity errors that were the result of some late editting/rewriting. Still good though. Yup yup yup.

Lincoln

I watched this to celebrate Juneteenth being acknowledged as a new national holiday! :D

Daniel Day-Lewis very much deserved his third Oscar through his performance as "Honest Abe."

Raining stones.
A very good Ken Loach film. Set in a Northern England town. People in post Thatcher misery. Funny dry English humour in places too.

Black Rain.
Michael Douglas is really good in this as a cynical cop who has to go on a case to Japan. I think this film is underrated.

My father was a huge history buff and IMO, would have viewed this movie as a very well-made film that portrayed Abraham Lincoln as a real man who had the courage to stand up against those who turned their backs on their country of origin.

He certainly would have approved of Daniel Day-Lewis' performance and Steven Spielberg's direction alongside approving of Juneteenth as a national holiday.

Because today is also Father's Day, today is also the 19th year my NT sister and I celebrated Father's Day without our dad, who passed on June 2nd, 2002 at the age of 43. Had he managed to get through his treatments without any problems, he would have turned 62 this year back on May 6th.
