Pretty in Pink -- She had a funky little VW.

^ That's a VW Karmann Ghia, manufactured 1955-74.

:D

The Volvo P1800 Coupe driven by Simon Templar in the ITC series The Saint in the 1960s.

This is from the same episode as the previous item. Don't know where to start in identifying this outrageous vehicle - maybe one of our American members can assist?

:?

Yet ANOTHER Series 1 Jaguar XJ6/Daimler Sovereign from the ITV 'Thriller' series (episode 41, May 1976). The production team must have had a fixation with this model in particular, and British Leyland cars in general, to judge from the frequency with which they appear. You'd never have guessed from this that the company was in fact on a steep downward trajectory at this time.

Another of Mike Baldwin's cars from a March 1983 episode of Coronation Street. This is a Series 3 Jaguar XJ6 or Daimler Sovereign with a 'W' registration plate (1980-81).

An Austin Maxi from the 8 May 1976 episode of 'Thriller'. Yet another car from this television series made by the British Leyland Motor Company (1969-81). John Lennon famously had a crash in a Maxi while holidaying in Scotland.

From the same episode, an Austin 1300, in the typical colours of a British police car from the late 1960s to mid 1970s.

I watched a show with that very car in it today. Totally different show though.

This car features in an episode of Coronation Street from 6 July 1983. From the front it looks like a Ford Cortina Mk5, but if so it's obviously a heavily modified and greatly enlarged version. In the story, it's used to ferry a Russian trade delegation on a visit to Mike Baldwin's factory.

An Austin Mini from the 15 May 1976 episode of 'Thriller'. These iconic cars were manufactured by BMC, then British Leyland (BLMC) and finally the Rover Group between 1959 and 2000. Since 2001 a version has continued to be produced by BMW, who bought a part of the Rover Group from British Aerospace in the mid-1990s. That version is still recognizably a Mini, just about, but has become very bloated, and reminds me a bit of a cut down Range Rover.

From the 2 March 1968 episode of The Saint. Simon Templar's Volvo P1800, and in front of it a Triumph Herald convertible.

Image

From the same episode, a carpark scene, with the Volvo in the foreground. The middle car in the background is a Humber Super Snipe, and to its right, a Ford Cortina Mk1. Don't know the identity of the American car next to it - probably a Chevrolet or Cadillac?

Alf Roberts's MGB from an October 1983 episode of Coronation Street. It's one of the post-1974 rather unattractive rubber bumper models, though that isn't obvious from this picture. What on earth was an 18 stone 50-odd year old grocer doing driving one of these things?

From the same episode, a Triumph TR6, a much more powerful beast with a 2.5 litre six cylinder fuel-injected engine, manufactured from 1969 to 1976. Usually regarded as the last real sports car in the TR series, though there was a rather disappointing TR7 model (1976-81), which bore no resemblance either outwardly or mechanically to its predecessors.

A Ford Cortina Mk4 from a November 1983 episode of Coronation Street. This was very similar in appearance to the later Mk5 (see earlier pic on this page), but looked nothing like earlier Cortina models. This was cabbie Jack Duckworth's taxi at the time.

A Jensen Interceptor from the final episode of The Saint in February 1969. These were manufactured at Jensen's Birmingham plant in the UK from 1966 to 1976, and were fitted with a 6.3 litre Chrysler V8 engine. Staggeringly powerful by British standards, though it was probably no big deal in the USA at the time.

Image

A TVR Vixen from the same episode. TVR was a small specialist firm operating from Blackpool in the UK, this model was manufactured in the period 1967-73.

Image

A Ford Cortina Mk 1 participating in a road race in the UK in the 1960s. This stock footage was used in the same episode as the above. Note the very 'Transatlantic' styling of the rear end, a bit of a fad with some models in the UK during the early to mid 1960s.
