Eh, didn't really care for it.

A lot of people didn't really like it. I liked it but it is definitely a let down from the other ones.

Last night I inflicted on watched with my bride: Meet the Feebles [1989].

Afterwards, after some hesitation, she seemed to kind of like it and said it was OK...though she didn't sound completely sure.

She also said without hesitation and with great confidence that it was WEIRD!

Oh, and maybe I should be concerned that she was cheering on the spurned hippo with a machine gun!

Jane Eyre from 2011 (directed by Cary Fukunaga)

My partner fell asleep near the end :P , but it was well done.

^ I've just checked the ginormous backlog of films on my hard drive, and there's an old black and white version of Jane Eyre starring Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine, with Aldous Huxley as one of the scriptwriters. I'll have to make sure I watch it in the fairly near future.

This is the one we watched.
I'm not a fan of literary adaptations and I don't think I've seen JE before.
He only had a vague recollection of the book.

It was better than we both expected even though I've never been a fan of the ending.
I wish they'd do a remake of Villette but it would be very difficult to capture the introspection.

I remember watching a black-and-white version of Wuthering Heights at least 30 years ago. Presumably it was the 1939 film starring Laurence Olivier, and I was dumbfounded when it ended half way through the story! I'll probably check that one out again if I can find a copy.

I've only seen WH on screen once, about a year ago, and it was that version. ^
I put off watching any film versions because I knew Hollywood would butcher / omit Volume II.

I liked young Cathy and Heathcliff, but the rest of the story fell flat.
I hate when they try to spin it as a romance.

^^

I vaguely remembering it having a beautiful musical score, but I don’t remember much else about it

It would be really difficult to turn novels like these into movies.

They should do WH in B&W as a gothic horror story, exploring sociopathy and abuse.

They could have wrapped it up at the 19 minute mark. ^
