The Schwarzenegger original is still the best.

Agreed

Last night we watched:

Mickey 17 [2025]
<=>"He's dying to save mankind."

We both liked the movie! We thought it was very good!

It might not be a smash hit kind of wonderful but it was beautiful visually and very fine science fiction.

Recommended! If you can stand a science fiction movie that isn't all action. This movie was more story!

Digging Up The Marrow.

Mockumentary in which the real life director of the Hatchet horror movie franchise is convinced by an eccentric middle aged man claiming to be a retired police detective that, since his childhood, he has been observing real monsters that come to the surface at night from their subterranean world he calls the Marrow. The movie maker is torn between wanting to believe after seeing evidence, and warnings from other movie makers that this old guy is a nut. But sometimes, the man in the tinfoil hat is right.
First rate horror comedy, and very much recommended!

The Maltese Falcon, 1931 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0022111

MUCH better than the more highly rated 1941 remake.

Boiler Room (2000)

The term refers to a scamming operation in which worthless shares are sold to hapless members of the public through high-pressure telephone cold calls. The firms that do this are also known as 'chop shops', I learned from the film.

It's actually quite interesting, though it probably goes on a bit too long and many critics are scornful of its ending, which is rather contrived and something of a cop-out. I'm not very familiar with the actors of this era, and Vin Diesel and Ben Affleck were the only ones I'd heard of. Also not too keen on the endless foul language and the rap music soundtrack.

Another great movie that I saw recently was the Beguiled (1971), starring Clint Eastwood. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066819/

There was a recent remake, starring Nicole Kidman. Probably not as good as the original.
