Wow... how long did it take to collect so many? I know that my father has somewhere in the range of 400 and I thought that was a large number but... a thousand?

Well done.

How would you even know that you had that many? Do you have each title counted in a spreadsheet?

If I had that many, I would probably say that I just had a big pile of them.

...112 Doctor Who discs...

...116 TV series discs...

...69 movie discs...

...and 3 miscellaneous discs...

So that makes...300 discs all up. A lot of them are box-sets, particularly the TV series and movies.

I don't know whether to count boxsets as one title, if I do intend to count the ones I currently have.

This is not the amount of actual DVD titles I have, but rather the actual amount of discs.

That's the equivalent of a small car. Wow!

You talking about my collection? A significant proportion (boxsets in particular) were given to me as Christmas or birthday presents (or else obtained using vouchers given as presents), and the rest I either budgeted for, or got while on sale or second-hand. I am currently budgeting for the next Doctor Who release in Australia, the Dalek War boxset. It's starting to get to the point where I don't have enough room for my DVDs, or my books for that matter. :?

It took just over 8 years.

Most of it consists of movies I recorded from cable on blank DVDs.

Well I'm not trying to steal your thunder, but the other day I clocked up 2500dvds. I consider one series of a TV show boxset = 1 dvd. Probably have about 70 tv shows and the rest are movies. All originals.

I've been trying to be good lately, so I've only got 2259 (so the sock wins) - that is a sock avatar isn't it?

Of course, I'm not counting individual DVDs in sets, so for instance Doctor Who the Complete First Series counts as 1.

Of that list, there are exactly 49 which I haven't gotten around to watching yet.

For Quatermass... 95 of them are Doctor Who DVDs.

I have them all in a domino database which I built myself. When I buy a DVD, I have to add it to the database, plus add it's information from IMDB (Cast Lists, Quotes etc..) and Rating from Rotten Tomatoes and DVD Review from a Review Site which has looked at that specific DVD. It takes me ages to update my database (damn OCD).

In any case my lowest purchase record month was September 2009 where I bought just 3. My highest record was December 2004 when I bought 45 in one month. (I must have gotten a few for Christmas that year).

Anyway, congratulations Tim. You're well on your way to having square eyes.

Oh my gosh you guys... I thought I was a serious hoarder of DVDs, and I only have 54! My collection is downright puny!

But seriously, I think my days of DVD collecting may be coming to a rapid close, because I plan on getting an iPod Nano in the near future and I'll just buy shows and movies over iTunes for that. :)

I just have a measly 850 individual discs (to be fair I've been a poor college student since 2002).

I just keep an Excel spreadsheet of everything I have. It lists:
Title
Number of discs
To whom it's been lent if someone borrows it

And since I've started getting Blu-Rays, I've added some new columns for the Blu-Rays tab:
Length in minutes of the film or show (not including special features, it would currently take 5.2 days to watch every one of the movies and shows nonstop)
Place of purchase
Date of purchase

I plan on taking on the task over the summer of adding up how long all of the DVDs are over the coming summer. Some may consider it a boring task, but I think it'll be fantastic (I love little OCD tasks like that).

Next to get them in Blu-Ray when that is fazed in fully.

I have only recently getting my own DVD colection, Though I don't aim getting too mcu quickly as I am already taking notice of how much room my games, books and DVDs are filling my set booksjelves. Though the family colection in loungeroom fill up a couple of bookshelves. Though if I started counting them it probably wouldnt take me long to line them up logicly and trying to catagoraise a large amount of videos.

Eight years... well, you'll never run out of things to watch. I take it you wont be using Bluray either?

You say "titles" that to me means something that has been manufactured and you include many of which you record from the TV?

I wouldn't include those really...
