http://www.collectorz.com/movie/

I use this, best $50 i spent on movies.
Just punch in the UPC code from back of the case and it syncs up everything from director/actors to country filmed in. Also has an app for windows media incase you ever want to load your movies on your HD and watch them through a cool ipod-esque cover browser.

I would have over 500 DVDs, but a few years back I got super ticked off that all I was doing was buying what ever was new, so I went through and pulled out everything I only watched once with no intention of watching again and sold them on ebay. Sold like 200 movies. Collection is at about 300 right now, bout 350 including blu-rays. I just got pissed off that my collection was so tainted by generic hollywood blockbusters next to classics =P.

So now, I just keep a running list of good movies i've come across and every couple months buy em off amazon. Make the trip to best buy every so often when something good comes out, but realistically you cant find anything good there, they dont carry much. I was in there before christmas though and their blu-ray collection expanded to nearly half the isles they have for movies, so that is really being pushed to faze out DVDs it seems.

Which is stupid, because there's nothing wrong with DVD as format. DVD was better than video cassette because as a disk DVD was smaller, didn't rely on tape, didn't have to be rewinded after use, allowed menu's and an interface etc.

Bluray does exactly the same thing, but with more disk space and nicer looks.

Not worth replacing all my DVDs just to get nicer effects.

I have a thousand VHS tapes. Most of them were bought in charity shops for 50p a throw.

I take it that 50p is quite cheap? Anyway, well done. Maybe DVD's will be that price one day...

50p is about the same price as a pack of "chips" - US or "crisps" UK so - yes, pretty cheap

I think we have about 300 or so, but they're all store-bought (mostly not by me...;)
I did record all the Star Treks I could, but they're on VHS...

I recently downsized my video collection and the charity shops wouldn't take my last seven bin-liners. Those seven bin-liners are about a third of the ones I took down the dump and the whole lot amounts to no more than 30% of my collection.

I recently downsized too ... but all I did was get rid of all the plastic covers so that I can put all the DVDs into sleeves. Wow.. It saved a huge amount of space and it's actually easier to locate films - since it's all strictly alphabetical.
