Yeah, I look up the episode reviews after I see them. He a scion.

WTF?

No, he was played by David Troughton, the son of Patrick Troughton. He also played a couple of roles in previous Doctor Who stories, notably King Peladon from The Curse of Peladon.

Scion meaning son or descendant of 'important' person. You know I used to read dictionaries for pleasure when I was a kid. Plus I have a thing for obscure or obsolete words and phrases.

......Right.

I thought it meant generally an important title of representation, ie the Scion of Balance.

Scion has several meanings, the most commonly used as another word for descendant, not necessarily a descendant of a important person either, although it can mean heir aswell. Another meaning is Guardian, which I'd imagine is what it means when Kain is described as the "Scion of Balance" in blood omen games. The latter meaning is probably the least commonly used meaning though.

I was hoping there would be a Dr Who thread on here.
My thoughts on a new assistant... I am probably alone in this, but I think they should bring back Carey Mulligan who played Sally Sparrow in 'Blink' (season 3). I thought her character was really good, and they left it open for the character to return.
Also... Whatever happened with the queen? At the end of 'The Shakespeare Code' (season 3) The queen has obviously met the doctor, and he has no idea who she is, suggesting that he hasn't met her yet. It looked as though they were setting her up to return in a later story, but so far she's not returned.

Carey Mulligan would have been good - they could still bring her back.

From the rumours it sounds like Catherine Tate will be making a surprise? return - though probably only in one of the specials.

I'm not sure that I like the idea of Catherine Zeta-Jones in the movie but then, I wasn't too keen on the idea of Billie Piper either - and look how that turned out.

The Doctor has met Elizabeth I several times according to the Tardis Info file...

Ooooo! A Doctor Who thread! 8)

I watched Doctor Who as a young kid with my Dad, but the memories of it are so old that I remembered little more than the opening theme song and the cheesy costumes.

When my husband and I started dating, he reintroduced me to The Doctor as he is a big fan. His favorite Doctor is Tom Baker. My favorite was Tom Baker too until David Tennant came into play. He's a bloody brilliant actor whose portrayal of The Doctor can only be described as a 900 year old Time Lord with the wisdom of ages and the mannerisms of an 8 year-old boy with serious ADHD. He's just so wild and out there, and Tennant is the master of the elastic face. His whole face stretches into these great expressions that just really add to his character.

My favorite villans are the Daleks. Who couldn't love those rolling tin cans? I have an action figure in my cube at work (along with a Capt. Jack, Rose, David Tennant, and Tom Baker-- and Albert Einstein-- not Doctor Who, obviously, but I have this thing going on that the Doctor goes back in the Tardis and meets my historical hero).

Great show-- both the retro series and revival series.

Tom Baker is my favorite Doctor, and my favorite villain should be fairly obvious. 8)

Possibly not so far off...

Do you remember that old DWM comic where the Vood turn out to be mondasians who later become the Cybermen. It was a good explanation for the head-handles.

My favourite doctor is David Tennant now... but before that it was Sylvester McCoy... and before that it was Patrick Troughton.
I never accepted Tom Baker as a favourite because he seemed too mainstream.

My favourite companion was Ace (and before that Sarah)... Now I'm not sure Possibly Rose or Donna.

And my favourite returning monsters... probably daleks but I'd love to see the ice warriors return.

I've heard of it. It had an aged and crazy Jamie McCrimmon dying at the end, right? The World Shapers...

Interesting... :chin: I guess the Mondasians have a long history of "issues."

BTW, any thoughts on what the "Cybershade" in the upcoming Christmas special is going to be? They're calling it a "Cyberman gone bad" (like the regular Cybermen aren't bad enough?)

I like Doctor Who I have DVDs from all 10 Doctors from the old series I like it from Patrick Troughton through to Colin Baker on Monday Trial of a Time Lord will be out on DVD I will be buying it on my way home from work. I not a huge fan of William Hartnell and I like some of the Sylvester McCoy episodes I don't the TV Movie with Paul McGann and I like the new but I prefer Christopher Eccleston to David Tennant.
