Perhaps one of the biggest problems I have with the MPAA is the NC-17 rating. Because of the stigma surrounding the rating (the public equates it with hardcore pornography), most studios won't distribute or market a film that receives an NC-17, and the moral guardians with the MPAA know this, and use it as a way of coercing filmmakers into censoring their movies. Many people affiliated with the film industry (including Roger Ebert) feel it should be abolished.

The fundamentalists will never let it be abolished.

To them, suggesting that the rating system be abolished is like suggesting that rape be legalized.

There is a problem when directors have to censor there film to make sure it doesnt get the dreaded NC 17 tag.

Oh God. It's too early in the morning for me to get started on the MPAA. If I had a dollar every time they assigned a rating I felt was BS, I wouldn't have to worry about working.

parents should be the primary arbitors of what movies are suitable for their children, not a corporate nanny. the ratings system should reflect this fact.
