I've heard rumors of this in the works by others in the otaku community, but saw the first TV trailer about 5 minutes ago.

I hope it doesn't suck as much as Dragon Ball Evolution did.

Somethings just can't be done live action: They look extraordinarily silly when you try. In fact, I think translating medias rarely works. Imagine a live action Pokémon movie, or an opera version. Because of this I won't be watching the movie lest it ruin the good and wholesome perception I have of the series. And I'm not very fond of the director, either, so I probably wouldn't like it even as a stand-alone movie.

I wonder if the movie will just be "water", it looked like there was a part simular to Aang's water rampage in the trailer and I think I remember hearing of sequels. I think that I might watch, I will try to enjoy it as a movie and not as an adaption to Avatar.

You're actually comparing M. Night Shyamalan to Uwe Boll? I'm not saying Shyamalan is without flaws, but he's nowhere near Boll territory. Shyamalan is a capable filmmaker who can make good films but has also had a number of less than impressive ideas. Boll is barely a filmmaker, who doesn't even put any detectable effort into trying to make movies.

Remember when Boll challenged everyone who hated his movies to a boxing match? Talk about someone who can't take criticism.

And may I add, Shyamalan never did that, as far as I know.

Am I the only one who has lots of hope for this movie? It's based on great source material with an interesting plot, the special effects look great, and the director has said the actors were great. The only thing I'm worried about is how will they be able to fit about 10 hours of awesomeness into a 2-3 hour movie!

Good point. The anime is how long now?

Actualy tecnicly Avatar does not fit the term of "anime", but yeah the series is quite long. I assume they might try to break it up into it's seasons (1) the Northen water tribe, (2) Omashu and or Ba Sing Se (3) fire nation. Great thing is that each of these ended in parts that would be excellent for movies.

I also wonder how they will do Zuko as he was one of my favourite characters and may take a lot of time to develop properly and would be very hard to do properly in one movie.

Given the animation style is slightly more cartoonish than anime, and it wasn't made in Japan, but it's close enough that where the issue if it's an anime or not is more technical than I care to care about, so forgive me if I use the term for the sake of brevity.

I'm hoping to go see this when it comes out. I should have my licence to drive by then. I'm hoping it will be good as I am a fan of the cartoon.

Actually, considering the fact that in Japan the term "anime" refers to all animation, one could make the case that you are right in calling it anime no matter where it comes from or what the style is.

A theory why the studio is releasing The Last Airbender
for this 4th of July weekend is to:

1.} Win back former fans of MNS, most "fans" started to jump ship
when The Village was released in 2004

2.} Beat the next Twilight movie, also set for 4th of July weekend release,
give or take one week

I think The Last Airbender looks cool, despite never have read
the manga nor seen any of the anime.
