Has anyone heard about 4kids re-branding TheCW4kids block? Apparently, 4kids is going to change it's name to "Toonzai" and will try to focus on bringing "edgier" anime to Saturday mornings. They will also be showing Dragon Ball Z Kai during the fall season (which will also air on Nicktoons Network sometime this month), but the licensing to it still belongs to Funimation so no one should worry about it too much, because it's still going to be released uncut (for Kai's standard at least) on DVD.

Personally, I think we shouldn't come to conclusions on this one just yet. Yes 4kids has made a lot of mistakes in the past, but if they realize these mistakes, this change could probably be beneficial to the anime industry (which needs all the help it can get). Also, I hated 4kids not because they've made unnecessary edits to anime so it could please the FCC, but because they didn't release these anime uncut on DVD with the exception of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Shaman King. However, the uncut volumes were discontinued before they even had a chance to be successful. Maybe this re-branding could change that, by allowing Funimation to air more of it's licensed shows on the new block and continue to release them uncut on DVD. Perhaps the name Toonzai really does mark a Toonami "revival", or perhaps it will be a complete flop that fanboys will send them death threats for. Only time will tell.

Here's the problem with the rebranding of the block: It sounds like a ripoff of the name "Toonami" , the late animated block Cartoon Network had before they canceled it.

I think that was their intention, because they might try to mimic Toonami with it's new "edgier" anime. What they mean by edgier other than DBZK is just something we'll have to wait and find out.

To be honest some of the things 4kids does is odd and unneeded at best.

Like making rice balls into sub-sandwiches.

I know that some younger children will be confused about what they are but a translating service should just only that translate or if needed add some captions that explain what some of the unknown to the younger audience is supposed to be.

Funny thing is they didn't replace the rice balls during the earlier episodes of Pokemon. They just called them donuts.

None the less you know what I mean right?

They act like it is so taboo for children to learn about the country these shows are from.

4kids just wants to Americanize everything. When it comes down to it, if 4kids had their hands on it, I'll just watch an English subbed Japanese version.

Toonami was the only good anime block I ever watched in America, 4Kids has yet to not ruin an anime for me. What with their cigarettes->lollypops, removal of blood and cleavage, and occasional race change, since people think everything broadcast in America was made for America (anyone remember Jynx from Pokemon?)

I would watch it if they just bought the rights to Toonami. Or better yet I wish they would just bring back Saturday morning cartoons.

I know 4kids butchered One Piece, but from what I've read, Toei Animation demanded 4kids to make those edits. They thought that since Dragon Ball Z was edited for a wider audience and became immensely popular, the same could happen for One Piece. And as you can see, they failed miserably.

It wasn't their editing that made me like DBZ, it was DBZ. In DBZ, Goku would always be eating bowls and bowls of rice, not oatmeal or applejacks.
Sure blood was cut out, but the show was largely in tact. I think where one piece lost out was that there were weapons in one piece, which could be turned into water pistols, where as DBZ was all fists, kicks and energy blasts. Also in dbz, Mr. Popo WASN'T turned from this:

Dragon Ball Kai on 4kids... :;;(

As long as Al KAHN!! !! !! !! !! ! Is the CEO of 4kids we will never get "edgy" anime on 4kids ever. And they will probably censor the hell out of Kai because 1. It would be impossible to show uncensored on american TV on a children's programming block and as well as the fact that 4kids will only allow other shows (not theirs) on their station if it fits their Nazi guidelines.

No Al Kahn claimed that but it was later discovered untrue all Toei said was to do what they can to make it as successful as possible in the U.S. and Al Kahn seemed to think that "making better" means raping it.

Meh, I don't watch 4kids anymore after I learned about how butchered some show can get by them (e.i. Sonic X, Ultraman Tiga)

The only decent 4kids show was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the feature Turtles Forever. Pokemon was good too.
