I'm starting my research, but I could use some information from fellow MLP-FiM fans. If anybody is willing, could you answer some questions for me, such as:
1- How did you get into the show?
2- Why do you like the show?
3- Do you identify yourself as part of the brony community?
4-What do you think about said community?
5- And any other information you think is relevant.
1. My friend Sheila from a statistics class I took. She was wearing a Rainbow Dash T-shirt
once, and then when I first friended her on Facebook her profile pic was Rainbow Dash. Sheila was one of the best people in that class (she actually worked with autistic children, though she was neither that nor Aspie in real life), so that made me want to learn more about the show.
2. It reminds me of "Winnie the Pooh", with shades of "Sesame Street" in it. In other words, a show that's cute enough for kids, but surreal/clever enough for adults
And it doesn't seem to lean TOO heavily towards either audience.
3. Kind of. But that doesn't mean I don't like MLP FIM parodies. The "pony.mov" series, for instance, I find hilarious (though a large part of that could be the "Ren and Stimpy" fan in me!!
) I also HATE causing/being a part of "flame wars" online. Can't say the same about every "Brony" I've seen (Though the ones I know in real life are generally pretty awesome! Curiously, I know more adult females than adult males that are a fan of the series irl)
4. I love the Bronies I've come to know in person (and some I've come to know REALLY well online). The ones online that I don't know can be a little weird sometimes though, and not in a good way :/
5. I'd LOVE to meet a Brony/Pegasister that's into indie/alt-pop/neo-folk type music!! Sheila is one such person, so I've met one, but I'd love to get to know more. Usually when I search for a "PMV" (Pony Music Video) online, it isn't typically indie, and is only sometimes alt-pop. Seriously why can't I find too many Bon Iver or Joni Mitchell pony music videos?!? (Or should I say "BonBon Iver" and "Poni Mitchell"?!
) "Big Yellow Taxi" and Fluttershy would go GREAT together, and I can't believe no one has done this!! !
