Last night we watched Max Headroom [1987–1988] Season 1, Episode 5: "War".

This episode's theme was:
- News media and terrorist groups both want audiences...that could support a "business" relationship

It also speculated that advertising time on media could be sold, by the second, in a real-time bidding market resembling the stock market. Based on current ratings (that is, audience).

I recommend Max Headroom to anyone who likes Science Fiction with substance.

I just finished F is For Family. The ending was okay, but I wish there could've been an epilogue showing how the Murphys turned out in the early 21st century. Imagine seeing Frank as an old man and his kids grown up with kids of their own.

Rachel In Danger, episode from a series called 'Armchair Thriller' (1978)

An international terrorist cell plans to assassinate an important guest at a royal garden party in London, but they are thwarted by a nine year old girl. Not very convincing.

This was the era of such terrorist plots though, eg the Baader Meinhof gang and the Italian Red Brigades, so you can see where this was coming from.

Last night we watched Max Headroom [1987–1988] Season 1, Episode 6: "The Blanks".

This episode's theme was:
- A society's large, interconnected computer infrastructure is a large, interconnected vulnerability

I recommend Max Headroom to anyone who likes Science Fiction with substance.

A Dog's Ransom, episode of 'Armchair Thriller' from 1978

A six-part drama, which starts off with a 'dognapping', but develops into a darker story involving questionable police procedures and attitudes. Rather patchy overall, with some strong scenes, but suffering from rather stagy and talky presentation a lot of the time. The ending is a bit ridiculous as well.

In the last few days we've watched:

Max Headroom [1987–1988] Season 2, Episode 1: "Academy".

This episode continued attention on cyber attacks but added themes:
- The criminal justice system might not work well for the powerless
- The criminal justice system could be seen as a game show

Max Headroom [1987–1988] Season 2, Episode 2: "Deities".

This episode's theme was:
- A skeptic could view organized religion as a business that markets hope
-\...and promises for future but currently undelivered more tangible benefits

I recommend Max Headroom to anyone who likes Science Fiction with substance.

Four episodes of Coronation Street from January 1981

Mike Baldwin's father Frankie turns up on the Street and is immediately scamming the locals and freeloading off them (his son included). Gail and Brian Tilsley bring their newborn son David back from the hospital and are annoyed by the constant interference of his grandparents. Interesting to see David Platt (David Tilsley) and Tracy Barlow (Tracy Langton)) here as infants, I wonder if they're still in the show - I wouldn't know as I haven't watched it for well over a decade....

I watched the first episode of the second season of The White Lotus.

Really enjoyed the first season. Concerned it was lightning in a bottle though and the second season will fail to recapture it. Not sure how much the cast in the first season was central to the appeal of it (second season is in a different hotel so different cast) although pleased to see Aubrey Plaza in it.
