The King's Affection (2021)

I started watching this after finishing The Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Both features the actor Park Eun-bin.

First impressions: Hats. I found the head gear design really interesting. Here is a sample of one set.

At first I sort of mesmerized by them, but they are extremely practical. Everyone has very long hair. The hair is rolled into a bun on top of the head. They have caps as well.

(the presence of the images is at the whim of the Internet web pages)

Episode 1: A mother, the princesses, gives birth to a boy, and everyone rejoices. Then she gives birth to a twin girl, and the her father, the king, orders the baby girl killed because twins are a bad omen. The girl is snuck away, and raised as a housemaid. Years later, the young boy stumbles across the young maid, and is struck by how much she looks like him. He then comes up with the playful plan of swapping places with her. Then it is discovered that the daughter survived, and it is decided that she must die.

That's all I'll write about that. It is a nice and interesting story.

Park Eun-bin does not make an appearance until towards the last quarter of episode 2.

*Later*
Just finished episode 3. There is a romantic side to me, but sometimes transitions happen that make me laugh when the intent is to make the viewer gasp, clutch their heart, and say in an incredulous musical voice, "Ooooh?" That's a drawn out "O" and not an "oo" as in root. I'm not sure if that reaction is a good one to have, but I'm stuck with it. I can appreciate that it is suppose to be romantic and there is the sweetness to it. The music is my cue. I still am enjoying the story.

Still watching The Kings Affection on Netflix. I'm up to episode 9 out of 20. The young prince, who is actually a woman, is under pressure to pick a bride, while the prince's tutor is drawn to the prince. The prince's cousin is maybe drawn to her as well, but we learn that he knows that the prince is actually the twin sister, and the prince was erroneously killed. Anyway, some of the prince's enemies find it strange that the prince does not go after the women in the kingdom.

I'm watching this in English because I have several things that need to get done. I will likely watch it in Korean later. I am use to the dubbed in voices. The dubbed in voice for Park Eun-bin is better than the one for The Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

That's right, a post with no links, although it is still a bit lengthy. :D

Is it political intrigue? Is it Katana fighting? Is it romance? Is it tragedy? So far it touches on all of these.
I forgot, there is humor.

And here is my link...

The King's Affection - Episode 11

The King, the father of the prince, discovers he is the sister, or possibly the son wearing women shoes, a gift from her devoted cousin, who knew she was not the friend she replaced. However, he kept her secret and pledged to protect her.

Episode 12 starts with her father, the king, telling her what he knows.

What is going to happen next?

I've been watching a documentary on Charles Manson, which seems to have been transmitted on the History Channel or the Biography Channel, or maybe both, in the mid-1990s.

Manson was clearly an irredeemable nut job, but what interested me more were the cases of two of his female followers in the murders at the Polanski and LaBianca households in Los Angeles in August 1969, namely Leslie Van Houten and Patricia Krenwinkel. These women seem to have been brainwashed by Manson, through the use of LSD, in their early 20s and appeared to be very rational and entirely remorseful when interviewed for the documentary.

It seems that they were considered for parole not long afterwards and turned down, and they're still incarcerated to this day more than half a century after their conviction and now well into their seventies. I'm not a liberal, either socially or in any other respect, but this did rather shock me.

Or maybe they're just highly intelligent and manipulative people, who knew exactly what they were doing back then, and are still a danger to society - that is clearly the opinion of the people in authority.

Not sure what to make of it all, quite honestly, but it does seem somewhat strange and even unsatisfactory....
